Rosemary Emery Obituary

Rosemary Elsie Emery (née Solomons) passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona, at Starfish Care Homes, where she received compassionate care during the final months of her life.

Born on August 5, 1928, in Kandy, Sri Lanka, Rosemary was the daughter of the late Harry Daniel and Charlotte Camilla Solomons. She was the beloved sister of the late Pat (Henry Edward William) Solomons and the late Jean Solomons Arasanayagam of Sri Lanka. She was the mother of Dia Tsung of Colorado and a cherished aunt to Devasundari (Canada), Parvathi (Sri Lanka), Romaine and Rhona (both of Australia), and the late Roger (Sri Lanka).

Rosemary spent her early years in Sri Lanka, where she worked for the United Nations and was crowned Miss Ceylon in 1950. She later immigrated to the United States, became a citizen, and settled in Tucson, Arizona. There, she enjoyed a long and fulfilling career at the University of Arizona.

Known for her elegance, creativity, and wit, Rosemary was a vibrant presence at local gatherings. Her distinctive style-marked by imaginative dress, jewelry, and makeup-reflected her artistic spirit. A thoughtful conversationalist and lifelong Democrat, she held firm beliefs in justice and equality.

She found joy in her community of friends and neighbors, relished long hikes and fine meals, and embraced Tucson's cultural richness. Her home was a reflection of her global experiences, filled with art and artifacts from her travels.

Her family deeply appreciates the love, care, and support provided by her dear friends Carolyn Goldschmidt and Maria Elena McElroy, along with the compassionate staff of Hospice in the Desert, during her final months.

Donations in Rosemary's memory may be made to the Humane Society or the Women's Foundation for the State of Arizona.

So sorry for your loss. Rosemary was a vibrant character and such a contribution to all of us. Her interesting and thoughtful conversations and interest in political discussions and ideas were always a pleasure to be part of. I hope she is in a better place, wearing her tiara and holding court.

Remember her laughter whenever she was around us and treasure the photos she sent me of her crowning of Miss Sri Lanka and was always generous. Miss her chats with us.
