Sharon Kha Obituary

Sharon Lorna Kha (Heinrichs), 80, of Vancouver, BC, Canada, passed away on June 15, 2024, in Tucson, Arizona. Sharon was a writer, community advocate, former southern Arizona journalist, and a long-time spokeswoman for the University of Arizona.

She was married to Kha Dang in 1967, and they were blessed with a son, David, in 1971. Sharon's career in journalism began with an unpaid internship at KTKT radio in the early 1970s, which quickly led to a paid position where she produced a weekly documentary called "KTKT Communicates." Her passion for storytelling then transitioned to television news reporting at KGUN-TV, where she worked on special projects, including the notable documentary "Joe Bonanno's Notes."

Sharon's adventurous spirit was evident when she chronicled her flight on a semi-restored World War II B-29 from Tucson to London in 1980. Her dedication to journalism and advocacy left a lasting impact on the community she served.

She is survived by Wesley Heinrichs, David Kha, and Kha Manh Dang. Sharon's life will be celebrated in the fall, with details to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to PWR GYM at 4343 N. Oracle Rd. #173 Tucson, AZ 85705, or online at pwr4life.org. Additionally, checks for St. Mark's Presbyterian Church can be sent to 3809 E Third St. Tucson, AZ, 85712, and checks for Tucson Home Sharing can be made out and mailed to 2332 E Seneca St. Tucson AZ 85719.

Sharon will be dearly missed by all who knew her, and her legacy will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.

I met Sharon through my long friendship with Deb Knox. My first impression of Sharon was her incisive wit and her wisdom. She was never at a loss for words even when her speech became difficult. I was grateful for her book because it revealed Sharon before and during her early stages of Parkinson´s. It inspired me with its tales of endurance amidst many challenges all written with compassion and an amazing sense of humor.
I also admired Deb and Sharon´s relationship and their collaboration on promoting home sharing.
Thank you, Deb, for introducing me to this extraordinary woman.
Blessings to you, to Sharon and all of Sharon´s family and friends.

Sharon and Kha were some of the first people I met when moving to Tucson in 1973. We created an informal play group of a few families so our small children could play together and the parents could find support and fun. Sharon was a gem in everything she did. Rest in peace and power. Condolences to Kha and David, and to all of the multitude of fans that she always had.

I have had the pleasure of sharing a home with Sharon since 2016. Shortly after moving in with her we created Tucson Home Sharing www.tucsonhomesharing.org to further the good news about this option for aging in place. Though Sharon was diagnosed in 2003 with Paarkinsons, she was active through out our time together. For all those who knew and loved her before me, please accept my blessings.

Aww she was a beautiful woman. I remember being a candy striper at St Mary's Hospital. Joe Banano had to have some kind of surgery. He was in the top floors of the hospital. You couldn't go past a certain floor. I know she will be missed. Prayers. Keep everyone posted about her memorial. Hugs and kisses. XO XO

I met Sharon at the World Parkinson Congress when she performed a rap song about her life with Parkinson's disease. I was impressed. She had a lot of spirit, and she will be missed.

Sharon was a lioness, indomitable, independent, kind, curious, and connected. My dad Larry like everyone, but both like and admired her. She could have been self-absorbed and never once was -- in face, she reached out so bravely to strangers that she made a major different in the world while she was here. I'm glad she's free, able to move about at will.
