Vicente was my big brother. he taught me that you didnt need a lot of money to have a good time. he loved to listen to oldies, dance, cook, swim, and just be around his family. i believe these are the things that made him the most happy. in the 80s, he was cooler than cool and larger than life. he was such a great break dancer and he looked like the karate kid and had all the girls chasing him. he helped build my first bike without training wheels. he let chris and i hang out at his place when we would walk to his house from school. he would make us cheese sandwiches and let us watch mtv. we would admire his workout bench and he would lift weights to impress us. he was only 8 years older than me but to me that made him very adult like even when i was too small to spell my own name. even when it wasnt the best time to visit, he never told us to go home early. he just let us stay til our little hearts content, or until my mom called for us to go home. i remember when he would lift me over his shoulders and let me sit on his shoulders cuz i thought he was a giant and i enjoyed the view from way up there. he was too young to die so soon and i wish i got to hang out with him just one last time. to hear his soft laugh or to share silly memories we had with one another. i miss you so much Vicente and i am sorry that we didnt spend more time with one another in our adult lives. i miss you like crazy big brother. i wish i could say it to your face.
