Mija, today marks 17 years since you physically left us but not one moment goes by without thinking of you. You left a gigantic whole in our hearts and life. We are continuing to do the best we can in your absence. Your twins are starting their senior year in college and you would be very proud of them. We miss you and love you forever. Until we meet again . Mom and Dad

Today marks 16 years since we lost our daughter in a horrific car accident. Every minute and emotion of that day is etched in our soul. Life has never been the same but we trust that God has a master plan that although we don't understand, we learn to accept. Zulema's twins have grown into beautiful young ladies and are juniors at the University. We have also awarded 15 years of scholarships in Zulema's honor. Her legacy lives on in those students that never even met her but are being rewarded through her generosity. We miss her terribly and look forward to seeing her again. We Love You .

Reflecting on 16 years since my goddaughter's tragic passing, it's evident that her loss has profoundly shaped my outlook on life. Her memory serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of living fully in the present, and showing kindness and compassion to those around us. Even though I believe there is an afterlife but not in heaven, I find solace in the idea that her spirit of kindness and compassion continues to live on. It's possible that she has been reborn and walks among us, influencing the world in ways we may not always see. Through my actions and the love I share, her legacy endures, reminding us all to cherish every moment and to be kind, as she once was.
Letting go of negative Emotions And not being attached to the actions of others has helped me leave a more happier life. "One who controls his own mind has no need to control others."
To those who read this,
May you be well and Happy.

Thinking of Mita, This Mothers Day 2010. "I Can Only Imagine"
Gabriela Gutierrez
May 17, 2009
It's almost been a year, and the sadness has not gone away and the void is still there and will always be there, nothing can ever replace the loss of one of the kindest, funniest, most hard-working, and generous, human beings I know. You knew what I thought of you and your babies and you knew I have you all in my heart, and I never thought of leaving a message here until mothers day and today, because maybe one day your babies Alex and Jordan might wanna read all about what people that knew their mommy thought of her. I can imagine there are many people that tell them all about you and how you were a world class mom that would literally drop everything you were doing to give all the attention to your baby girls. I can say that many times, I witnessed you to be the ONLY MOM at the daycare that would be greeted by a loud and long applause by your girls running to you and showering you with affection, and yelling: Mima!!! You're here!! You probably never noticed all heads turning to see this heartmelting view because you were so focused kneeling with your little angels and spilling all your love on them :) Your babies knew that the days YOU would have them, they would be safe, loved, and cared for by the best mom they could have possibly had, and that they would be surrounded by loving and caring family. I was so happy to have them in my life everyday while they were there. They have always had and will always have, just as you do, a very special place in my heart. I pray for your babies and your family, I know God has everyone in His hands and that He's in charge.
Until I see you again my friend, I just keep blowing you a kiss everyday from here and sending you smiles and hugs :)
May 11, 2009
Zulema :)
I just wanted you to know that there is not a day that I don't blow you a kiss from here and send you a hug, and I wanted to say happy mother's day to you from here because I still think you were the BEST mom to your babies who I adore. I know you must be having a great time up there but I can't help missing you, and I just can't wait to see you and hug you my friend!
Love you always and forever :)

Mita,
Thirty minutes from now is officially Mothers Day 2009. You and Mom are in my thoughts, I miss you so much. I always thought it was silly to write messages like this, but it gives me comfort to let others know that you are not forgotten and never will be. Please
Continue to watch over us and protect us. Love Nina

Family,
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day and I am sad that Zulemita can't be here. Mita loved the holidays. I thought of her this morning and I threatened everyone not to dare take the newspaper because the ads were solely hers. Mita was assured I would save them for her. Black Friday won't be the same anymore, EVER. Miss her more than words can express, but as long as I can breath she will be remembered. I pray for strength and for Gods guidance and protection for everyone. Lord hear my prayers. With Love, NIna

I miss you Mita. Your song "I can only imagine" has become my anthem and it helps get me through the day. I think of you everyday, and I know you are near. I have to believe that God has a plan for all of us and that he will never and has never left us. I feel good when you are in my thoughts and when you are in others too. I hope you knew how many people loved you. True unconditional love with no hidden agenda. "I can only imagine"
I love you.

Mita, i can't describe her in just one word, the reason is because she didn't just mean one thing to me. Mita was always a happy person and always in for a great game of SCAT! It seems like just the other day she asked me to surprise her with a drink but to make sure it wasn't too "FLAT," she always welcomed everyone with a huge hug that always had left you with her wonderful scent. I remember a talk me and Zulemita had when i was about 8 years old, and i will never forget what she told me; "Mijita, if you find a love that is so strong that no one can tear through, then run with it as far as you can and never let go of it!" These piercing words hit my heart as soon as they had left her lips, everytime I'm sitting in silence, i think of her words and they remind me that she did in fact find a love that was tremendously strong. It is the love that she shares with her Beautiful Twin baby girls; Jordan and Alex. Mita opened my eyes to so many things throughout the years and i promised her i would take the words of wisdom on with me throught the rest of my years. Mita was a very caring, compassionate, wise, funny, and very intelligent person and wasn't afraid to show her wild side once in a while! All of the happy times, sad times, difficult times, and the hilarious times that we had share wit Mita, will always be in mine and my family's heart where they will forever dwell.

Zulema was an AMAZING woman! I was blessed to have known her. The short few years I was in her life made me a better person. She fought so hard for what she thought was right. Her children were her whole world and I admired her for that! She taught me that true love is unconditional and will last till the end of time.God, please watch over her and all who loved her!Her smile, her hands, her heart and her soul will never be forgotten. While losing such a beautiful woman is hard to understand, knowing she made us ALL better people just by being in our lifes helps to ease the pain. She would have done anything in her power to help someone in need EVEN some who didnt deserve it! Thank you, Zulema for teaching me that love has no limits,to learn from every mistake, and most of all that making your children safe no matter what the cost is the most IMPORTANT thing a MOTHER can do!You learned from the best your parents gave you the foundation to make a difference and you DID! Thank you my love for giving all of us the the power to make a difference!Zulema, I love you with all my heart!I will see you again!

Mita, my cousin, was a beautiful person. Being our eldest female cousin, she always had that loving, kind, caring, and compassionate maternal spirit. We Prieto girls loved her so much. We could always count on her.
From cooking us Emeril dishes, to taking us to the movies, to giving us rides in her Geo Storm when we were little...My memories of Mita all fill my heart with happiness.

To the Felix Family
No bond is as great as that between a parent and child. My deepest condolences are with you as you grieve. Zulema was a beautiful young girl at St. John school where I often saw. I remember very well when her graduation time at church, the students sang the song called if I remember, "It's so hard to say Good-bye". I was sitting closer to Zulema. She had a beautiful smile with her tears flowing down her soft cheeks as she sang. I will never forget her soft smile. She was a beautiful young lady.
God bless you, all

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I send my deepest sympathies to Frenchie, & to all the Felix Family. I had the pleasure of knowing Zulema from my cousin who also was a classmate at St. Johns. Dear Felix Family, Z was in my homeroom class all thru Salpointe. She always had that big smile to share with you and something to make you laugh if you needed it. I know that in school she used to write little poems... I am not sure if she kept it up as we grew older, but I know that she had a poet's spirit. She was a very special person in my life and I am so sad to hear that she is no longer with us. I would have loved to see her daughters and watched her share all her love and great spirit with them. It is even more sad to me that they will have had her in their lives for so short a time. Please know that you have my thoughts and prayers. May the passing of time help ease the pain of your loss -- I know no words can help. I am sure she is smiling down from heaven watching over all of us. All of the best to you all... especially those precious little girls.

Dear Felix Family, Once again I want to tell you how sad I am . Zulema was a wonderful young girl when she was growing up at St. John Schoo.l She always took the part of the child who was being teased or who seemed to not be able to make friends. Justice was very important to her. I enjoyed her very much, especially when she would come to me to tell me she felt something I had done was "not fair" It was refreshing that she felt she could come to me and express her thoughts and opinions. She would fight for what she thought was right. You will be in my prayers and in my love, as will Zulma.

Dear Felix Family,
It brings great sadness to hear about Zulema. May our FAITH continue to comfort us during this time of loss. I will always remember Zulema for her giving heart as a friend and youth group leader. She will always be remembered. Your family and the precious twins are in my prayers.
P.S. I just shared Jose & Zulema's prom picture with my little sister 2 weeks ago. Jose had a great time! Now they are celebrating together in HEAVEN:)!
Love,
Maria "Otero" Navarro

I'm sorry I never kept in touch. She was a good friend to me when we were in school together. She will always have a place in my heart.
