Carole Butler Obituary

BUTLER - Carole H. A noted Oklahoma Educator, humanitarian, loving mother, aunt and family matriarch, passed away peacefully in her home with her son and daughters at her side on Saturday, November 15, 2008. Carole will be remembered as one of those rare individuals who gave her love unconditionally. She raised her family in an environment full of love and respect. She is survived by: her children, Mike (Sally) Butler of Flagstaff, AZ, Shelley (Richard) Butler-Allen of Tahlequah, OK, Jana Butler Rhoads of Tulsa; her brother, De Armand Henry of Anadarko, OK; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Her brothers, Vincent Henry and Raymond Henry, and sister Jo Beryl (Joby) Redcorn preceded her in death. Carole Julene Henry (P'ah Tsaht Kiah Day) was born on October 3, 1927 to Frank C. and Mary K. Henry in Lawton, OK. She was married in Lawton, OK in 1946. She raised her family and returned to the workforce in 1961 to support her family while her husband completed seminary. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 1970 and her Master's degree in Education from the University of Oklahoma in 1974. Carole taught school in Lawton and Tulsa, OK. She was divorced in 1974. In 1978 she was appointed Director of the National Indian Child Abuse and Neglect Resource Center in Tulsa, OK, and served her community in a variety of professional and voluntary roles associated with Native American social and educational programs. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, or to Thunder-Road Theatre Company. A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Butler-Stumpff funeral home Chapel in Tulsa. A Memorial service will follow on Thursday at 3 p.m. at the College Hill Presbyterian Church in Tulsa. Services are under the direction of the Tulsa-Cremation Society of Oklahoma, (918) 599-7337. Carole was an angel towards me and mostly my Mother (Carmel). My mother and Carole talk about there native home and the ways it use to be.She was a blessing and she will be miss.May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief an remember the wonderful time that you had with Carole.
