Jack Newton Williams, 88, of Oklahoma City, passed away on October 21, 2025. He was born September 27, 1937, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Isaac and Violet Williams.
Jack and his wife Sylvia purchased Elmo's Grill in 1960, a beloved Tulsa diner known for its famous chicken fried steak and biscuits and gravy. Jack's warmth and cooking drew a loyal following, and his story was even featured on NPR and in local newspapers. There was always a line out of the door on Wednesdays and Saturdays for his chicken fried steak and biscuits and gravy.
After closing the restaurant, Jack worked for the University of Tulsa and later retired from Tulsa Public Schools. He also served in the U.S. Naval Reserves and was a 32° Mason of the Scottish Rite.
