Jeffery Howard Obituary

Dr. Jeffery Howard

Dr. Jeffrey Howard, a beloved physician in the Tulsa community, passed away on April 22, 2023. He was 58 years old. Born on January 21, 1965, in Omaha, NE. Dr. Howard grew up in Denver and Albuquerque and completed his undergraduate degree at Abilene Christian University. Jeff pursued his passion for medicine by attending the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and completing his residency at the University of Oklahoma School of Community Medicine in Tulsa. In more than thirty years of family medicine, Jeff improved countless lives, earning the respect and admiration of his patients and colleagues. Dr. Howard was known for his attention to detail, and went above and beyond to care for his many long-time patients – some of which he'd treated for decades. He showed a compassionate bedside manner, willingness to listen, and an ability to make his patients feel at ease. He was also particularly skilled in difficult diagnoses, and continually kept up with the latest medical advances to provide the best care possible.

Outside of his practice, Dr. Howard was devoted to his family and cherished his many friends. He loved spending time with his Dachshunds and was eager to share stories of their latest adventures together.

Jeff was a member of The Park Church of Christ in Tulsa, and was a faithful friend to many there, even as his cancer progressed. He wanted to be with his church family whenever he felt strong enough, and even sometimes when he didn't. Dr. Howard will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He'll always be remembered for his warmth, kindness, wisdom, and signature upbeat nature. His legacy lives on through his family and friends who loved him dearly, many colleagues who respected his work, and countless patients and families whose lives he touched. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 29, at 10 a.m., at The Park Church of Christ in Tulsa. Floralhaven.com

Uncle Jeff was very kind to me and was like an uncle to me:) he was always excited to have dinner with me and my family. He was always happy even when he wasn´t feeling his best. His happy spirits always made me happy even if I wasn´t. We love you Uncle Jeff!! With love,

How often do you know or hear of people who actually look forward to going to - or taking their children - to a doctor?!? Answer: Never! Unless you happened to have been blessed with having your PCP being Dr. Howard who was ALWAYS greeted you with a smile, a handshake, and a positive attitude. You didn´t feel inferior to Dr. Jeff in conversation even though you knew from past experience the man was a super gifted and intelligent physician.

He listened so well to his patients - whether young or old. I marveled how he engaged my kids in the diagnosis and healing process and made them feel at ease. I can hear him now, looking at my youngest and saying, "Julianna, why don´t we try this? What do you think about that?!?" Soooo impressive and effective with kids. Made them feel important.

I remember having a high cholesterol level decades ago and suggested I try lowering those levels with diet and exercise modifications. Dr. Howard didn´t hesitate to tell me to go for it without medication modifications. Success! Thank you Dr. Howard to bring the quintessential listener to your patients, always having a smile, and kind words.

When he entered as your patient you never felt rushed. Never! Even if it was casual conversation after his diagnosis. Time. What´s more important or precious than that? Dr. Howard always honored the time you spent with him.

As one ages and if you are lucky and blessed enough to still be here those losses of friends and family will come but man...this is an extremely tough one to accept. What an enormous loss to the medical community, friends, and family.

Dr. Howard! to say I was devastated by your passing, would be an understatement. Words do not even come close to expressing the void you've left in so many people's hearts; from family members, to friends, relatives, your patients and staff. I have known you for over 16 years and counting; you were the ideal and model citizen and practitioner. I always enjoyed our conversations every time I visited your office to discuss my overall health, recent medical discoveries, unique topics on medicine, health and much more.
You will be missed dearly! I am honored and proud to have been your patient, a colleague and above all a dear "friend". Rest in Peace !

My husband and I became Dr. Howard´s patients 8 years ago. He was a young doctor and I thought that he will be our doctor in our older days. I was devastated when I found out that he had cancer. He was nice, kind and a caring doctor. He will be missed by all who knew him. Our heartfelt condolences to his family. Thanks to his parents who moved from Texas to Tulsa to be closer to him in his fading days. And thanks to his sister who traveled with him when he went for treatments. May his soul Rest In Peace. Just speechless! He spoke about how he was feeling great, taking it easy, spending time with family by cutting down clinic hours. He always had time for his patients, and you felt like you mattered to him. I will miss him terribly. He had been my PCP on and off since 2000. Rest In Peace Dr. Howard. You will be greatly missed.

Dr Howard was my doctor for many years. He was always so welcoming, took the time to truly listen to me and any concerns I had. I never ever felt like he was in a hurry. He was extremely thorough and wanted to do everything he could to help you. I saw him not too long ago, and despite the fact that he was battling cancer, he was so genuinely happy and told me he was just going to take things as they come and that it would all be ok. Dr Howard, you were such an amazing doctor and human. Your true kindness was a gift to us all.

I was completely devastated to hear of Dr. Howard's passing. I have been his patient for over 25 years. He was so much more than a doctor, he was a friend as well. He was always so pleasant to be around. We always ended up talking about many things during my visits to his office. He was so personal with all of his patients. I last saw him at the end of January 2023 and noticed his weight loss. He told me of his diagnosis and how things were going and I remember thinking, what a terrible tragedy that would be to lose him. I will miss our conversations and his unique personality. I offer my sincere condolences to his family in this time of sorrow. He was a wonderful person and Doctor. What a great loss this will be!!
