Joan Lepley Hunt
Sep 29, 1931 - Sep 28, 2025
Joan Lepley Hunt, a devoted family member, accomplished leader, and beloved friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on September 28, 2025, just one day shy of her 94th birthday.
Born on September 29, 1931, in Bristow, Oklahoma, Joan was the daughter of Tom and Iva (Kuykendall) Jones. Her early years instilled in her the values of resilience, hard work, and generosity that defined her life.
On January 28, 1987, at the First Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Joan married Robert Griffin Hunt. Together, they built a life of love, faith, and service.
Joan was predeceased by her husband, Robert Griffin Hunt in 2020, and is survived by her stepson, Daniel Edward Hunt, and his wife, Evan Elizabeth Hunt, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and their children, Daniel Phillips Hunt of Denver, Colorado, and Robert Spencer Hunt of Los Angeles, California; her stepdaughter, Shelly Cecille Hunt of Opelika, Alabama, and her children, Michael Griffin Maxwell of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Robert Graem Maxwell of Atlanta, Georgia; and her cherished companion, Andy, her best friend in the world, adopted from Poodle Rescue in Tulsa. A very special thank you from the Hunt family goes to our dear family friend, Charles Bennett, Joan's caregivers, Teri Evans with Purview Life, Ruby Martinez, Angel Brown, Shannon Mayberry, Patricia Thomas and Juanita Fox, all of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Professionally, Joan left an indelible mark on the Tulsa community. One of the early female business leaders in Tulsa, Joan served as president of Southland Shopping Center, now known as Promenade Mall, and for more than 40 years, she guided the Campbell Lepley Hunt Foundation as its Executive Director. Her commitment to the arts and culture of Tulsa was profound, serving on the boards of the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, Philbrook Museum, and Gilcrease Museum, to name a few. Joan's philanthropic passion over the last several years focused on serving arts and humanities organizations in Oklahoma. Joan was also committed to the food and housing needs of the Tulsa community (Food Bank, John 3:16,
Salvation Army, and Homeless Shelters).
Joan will be remembered not only for her leadership and vision but also for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
A life well-lived, Joan's legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2025 in the Mason Chapel at Asbury Methodist Church, 6767 South Mingo Road, Tulsa, OK.
