Rev. John Wilson Henegar

John Henegar Obituary

HENEGAR, Rev John Wilson , 87, of Colleyville, TX and formerly of Tulsa, joined his Heavenly Father and his beloved wife, Jessie Ann on Tuesday, June 3, 2008. He was born in Ramona, OK on May 18, 1921, one of twelve children born to Arlis Henegar and Alta Jo (Street) Henegar. He finished high school and continued his education with some college credits in the following years. He was also given a honorary degree later in life. Wilson entered the ministry at the age of 19. He pastored his first church in Hickory Grove, AR at the age of 21. He went on to pastor in a number of places as well as pioneering four churches in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and California. Pastorates through the years included Baxter Springs, KS, Nowata, OK, Bartlesville, OK, Sperry, OK and his last pastorate at Inola, OK, where he was pastoring at the time of his retirement. He was first ordained with The Church of God of the Apostolic Faith for 10 years. He was then ordained with the Assemblies of God for 58 years. He made 12 trips to the country of Brazil, preaching and ministering at Ministerial Training Institutes, and preaching on trips into the interior of the country. He and his wife Jessie Ann were members of Garnett Road Assembly of God for a number of years and in recent years had been members of Sand Springs First Assembly of God. Jessie Ann preceded him in death on May 30, 2001. As for hobbies, it could be said that Wilson's hobby was people. He loved people and was always concerned about their well being. He enjoyed talking with friends and letting them know he cared for them. Most of all, he wanted to be sure that they were serving the Lord Jesus Christ. He is survived by: 2 daughters, Mary Kiker and husband Bruce of Colleyville, TX, their children Todd and Bryony Kiker, Seth and Micah; Alison and Arlie Rogers, AJ, Emerson and Finley; Joel and Devon Kiker. Elaine Hacker and husband Maurice of Columbia, MO, their children, Chenella and Chris Priest; Marianne Martinez and Misael; 3 sisters, Geraldine Claunch, Joyce Pollock, and Donna Moon; 3 brothers, Joe Henegar, Gerald Henegar, and Rex Henegar; and a great host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends scattered from coast to coast and around the world. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 8, 2008, from 3 p.m. to 5p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, June 9, 2008, at Sand Springs First Assembly of God with Dr. Gaylan Claunch and Dr. Jesse K. Moon officiating. Interment will be at Tyner Cemetery in Ramona, OK at 9:30 a.m., prior to the service. If you wish you may make contributions in Rev. Henegar's memory to the Assemblies of God Bible College in Brazil in lieu of flowers. He was a great man of God. He ministered the Word of the Lord with love and passion for our congregation at Lighthouse in Tulsa in his twilight years and while carrying for his wife. He loved his children and showed all of us the way to Jesus by his patient and consistent love of God, his commandments, sinners and saints.

I have wonderful memories from his time as pastor of Tuxedo Assembly in Bartlesville. Mom always fixed creamed cauliflower for him when they came to dinner. What a sweet man. Heaven is richer tonight.
