John Seibold Obituary

John Rudolph Seibold was born in 1935 in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in Washington, D.C. and graduated from Auburn University at the age of 19 with a degree in engineering physics.

In 1966, John moved to Tulsa and became part of the new IBM computer world at Amoco. In 1968, he married Connie Ridgway Boggs and become the devoted father of Damon and Thea Boggs. As the children grew older, the family traveled to visit other members of the Seibold family, enjoying activities and a lot of sightseeing along the way. John was able to spend at least a few hours in all 50 states.

A son, Michael, was born to John and Connie in 1979. He loved soccer and John spent several years coaching and/or refereeing. Michael played in the Edison High School band, so John chaperoned many band trips. The family's travels included a trip to Scandinavia in 2001. In 2003, Michael committed suicide with no warning. John and Connie survived this devasting event together and John continued working in the computer world until he was 70. During these years, they became involved in square dancing, then contra and English country dance.

After retirement, John and Connie made many trips to Europe, mostly on coastal and river cruises. They continued their dancing and eventually rented an apartment in Lexington, Kentucky where they had easy access to all the different kinds of dancing. John also joined First Unitarian Church in Lexington.

In 2018, John and Connie moved to Zarrow Pointe Retirement Center. They continued their dancing in Oklahoma City and northeast Oklahoma until covid shut down everything. Unfortunately, John eventually found himself confined to a wheelchair because of a chip in his spine.

In August of 2023, John acquired a second chip in his spine, could no longer move in and out of the wheelchair and went into Zarrow Health Care Center. He was allowed to attend activities in the attached main building, but the pain in his arms, legs and back increased. In early January, John went into a coma and went to the hospital for testing, then returned to Zarrow and soon entered hospice. He was given an increase in painkillers which eliminated his pain, but kept him asleep most of the time. He died peacefully on January 15.

John was predeceased by his parents and his son, Michael Webster Seibold, He is survived by his wife, Connie (Ridgway) Seibold, son Damon Boggs, daughter Thea Lawson and grandsons Derek and Clark Ellis. There are four surviving siblings, Robert Seibold, Jean Brough, Edward Seibold and Dr. James Seibold.

A memorial service will be held in Bernstein Auditorium at Zarrow Pointe at 10:00 on Saturday, February 3. It will be followed by a reception.

John supported many non-profit organizations. Donations in his name are suggested for Planned Parenthood of the Great Plains, Hope Unitarian Church and Tulsa Public Schools.

Square dancers remember John and Connie with kind affection. We danced many times with them at the Advanced level in Wyandotte, OK. I remember when they moved to Zarrow and were very pleased to have such a place to live. Our thoughts and prayers go to Connie and the extended family.
