Larry Detrick Obituary

DETRICK - Larry Leslie, was born July 24, 1940, to Herschel E. and Gretchen M. Detrick in Clay City, IN. He moved to Tulsa in 1951. Larry's first job was as a butcher at the Rowan and Petty Grocery. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 6 years, and as a Police Officer for the City of Tulsa from 1967 until 1974. He entered the trucking business and was an owner/ operator leased to Arrow Trucking Company from 1974 until 1987. Larry went into the land management business in 1989 as Detrick Services. He became associated with Prudential Detrick Realty as a Property Manager in 1996. In recent years, Larry was employed as a security guard. Larry is preceded in death by: his parents and a brother, Vaughn Detrick. He is survived by: his brother, Sheldon Detrick of Tulsa; four daughters: Ann Cade and Susan Manning of Roebuck, SC, and Donnell Russell and Michelle Bellows of Mammoth Springs, AR; stepsons: Timothy Varnell, Todd Detrick, and Trevor Varnell of Tulsa; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and one niece, Diana Medders of Tulsa.. Larry will be remembered for his sense of humor and his love of fishing and raising show quality dahlias. He won the grand prize at the Tulsa State Fair several times for his flowers, and once held the. Arkansas record for the largest blue catfish. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 25th, 2009, at 11 a.m., in the Rose Chapel at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, Interment in Clay City, IN.
