Linda K. DiVittorio, 83, of Harwich, MA, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Bridges at Mashpee.
Linda was a powerhouse!
A lifelong educator (45 years) she believed everyone had the right to an education. She truly believed everyone should be able to read. An avid reader, the walls in her house were lined with books she read not once but over and over again. Mostly mysteries. In her mind reading was the way to your future, teaching many of her students and family to read one page at a time... a legacy her family members carry on to this day.
An advocate for children, she often brought struggling kids into her own home to live until she could make sure, they had a safe place to go when they left.
As a member of the Native American community, she started her teaching career on a reservation, moving on to a long career in public school systems in Tulsa, OK, Attleboro, MA, Sharon, MA and ending her long career as the technology coordinator in Chatham, MA.
She was adamant about furthering her education as well. After getting her teaching degree in Tahlequah, OK, she continued to study at the State University of NY at Buffalo, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where she received her Master's Degree, with follow up technology study at Brown University in Providence. Where her studies in computer graphics convinced the Sharon Public School System to upgrade their entire computer education system to in order to keep up with the future that technology promised.
But she wasn't just an educator. She loved to shop! If one was good the ten were better! And, amazingly, everything she bought was always "on sale"! But her shopping was outshined by her generosity. Some of everything she ever bought had to be shared with everyone she loved. Linda was extremely involved in her politics as well. Followed Rachel Maddow obsessively and cried when Hillary lost.
She loved gardening but was pretty bad at it. But that was ok, she would buy new plants and pretend she had grown them!
She loved to cook. She hosted so many weddings, parties and student spaghetti dinners that she lost count!
And Linda loved her dogs! Always rescued puppies and dogs of all ages. She believed "Don't shop, ADOPT!" And she did.
But most importantly Linda was a much loved wife, Mother, Aunt that was like a Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. (Who cheated at UNO!).
Linda was predeceased by her parents, Harley and Peggy Kersey of Okmulgee, OK. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Nicholas, her daughter Sheri and her spouse Naki, her son Fred, her daughter of choice Debbie and her partner Eliot, her grandson Tyler and his partner Brandee, her granddaughter Brandi and her spouse Michael, her favorite nephew Charlie and his spouse Emily, her great granddaughter Vega Raye and the thousands of men and women that she helped to educate and grow into successful human beings.
She will be truly truly missed.
