Mickey Wilson Obituary

Mickey Dan Wilson

December 5, 1931 - April 18, 2025

Mickey Dan Wilson, 93, was born in Tulsa to Natalie Folsom and Gordon Wesley Wilson on December 5, 1931 and passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025. Mickey had a paper route during high school, earned the rank of Life Scout, and graduated from Tulsa Central in the Nifty Class of '50. Mickey went to the University of Tulsa on a tennis scholarship, the first from his family to attend college. Mickey, a three-year letterman, and his doubles partner, Ollie Gresham, won the Missouri Valley Conference in 1954. Mickey was also a TU cheerleader, only dropping one girl during his four years on a muddy football field at the University of Arkansas. He was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. After graduating in 1954 with a political science degree, Mickey headed to the University of Oklahoma Law School, graduating in 1956.

Immediately upon graduation, Mickey was appointed Assistant County Attorney for Tulsa County and remained in that position until he entered the U.S. Air Force as a Second Lieutenant in 1957. He worked as Staff Judge Advocate and was stationed in Crete and received an Honorable Discharge with the rank of Captain in December 1959.

After his military service, Mickey returned to Tulsa to begin his law career, which focused on corporate and commercial law. He was selected both as Outstanding Junior Lawyer and Outstanding Senior Lawyer by the Tulsa County Bar Association, as well as Tulsa Tribune Man of the Month for civic contributions in the legal field. In 1983, Mickey's career shifted to the federal bench, being appointed the United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of Oklahoma in 1983. While on the bench, he was active in the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Commercial Law League of America, and Inns of Court. Mickey was also an adjunct professor at the ORU Law School, and a guest speaker at seminars held by the ABA, OBA, and Tulsa County Bar Association, among others.

Mickey dedicated much of his time to the Boy Scouts of America, having served on the Board of Directors for the Indian Nations Council for many years. He was honored with the Silver Beaver Award, the Award of Merit, and the Founders Award. Camp Hale has a building named in his honor. Mickey was known throughout the country as an avid Boy Scout patch collector.

Mickey was a faithful member of St. John's Episcopal Church serving as chancellor, vestryman, lay reader, and usher chairman for many years. He also served on the board of directors for the Tulsa Historical Society and was elected to the Tulsa Hall of Fame in 2013.

In 1956, Mickey married Carol A. Hockenson, who passed away in 2001. In 2008, Mickey married Ann Henry Lake. Survivors include his son Christopher Michael Wilson (Yvonne), Laura Wilson Lason (Scott), grandchildren Michael and Daniel Wilson, David, Melissa and Carolyn Lason and great-grandsons Santi and Teo Wilson, and numerous nieces and nephews that loved Uncle Mickey. He is predeceased by his parents, daughter-in-law, Blanca Wilson, and siblings Patricia Morrison, Gordon W. Wilson, Jr., and Bettye Sue Rucker.

A memorial service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, 4200 S. Atlanta Place, on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.

I worked for Mickey when I was in college and he was by far the most generous attorney I ever worked with and taught me a great deal about not only the law but also tennis. My sincere condolences to his family.
