Robert Joe Gibbens

1931 - 2023

Robert Joe Gibbens Born May 2nd, 1931, to Russell H. and Hazel Gibbens of Tulsa, "Bob" was a resident of Tulsa for most of his life. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mildred Lee Gibbens, son Michael Gibbens and Tracey Allen, daughter Michele Todd and husband Dale, two granddaughters Madeleine and Audrey, three brothers and sisters, Delores Webster, Jim Gibbens, and Bill Gibbens. He is preceded in death by his parents Russell H. and Hazel Gibbens, brothers and sisters Russell Gibbens, John Gibbens, Lorene Tribbey, Louise Owen, Tom Gibbens, and Ida Mae Dooley.

Just like his older brothers, he enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his service, he met his future wife Mildred Lee Wadley on December 18, 1954, while they were both working at Douglas Aircraft, and married August 5th, 1955. He later joined Midwestern Instruments and then to Manager of Engineering Services at Telex Corporation. In 1973, he ventured out on his own and founded Jet Press, a local printing company where in its beginnings was a proud founding supporter/sponsor of Oklahoma Special Olympics that continued for decades. He helped establish the Drafting program at Tulsa Junior College during the 1970s. He sold Jet Press in 2007 after 37 years.

Growing up in Tulsa, he played baseball, golfed, and was a very accomplished bowler having participated in the American Bowling Conference tournaments.

The memorial service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at Moore's Southlawn Chapel.

The family would like to offer its gratitude to both Allied and Saint Francis Hospice including Princess Henry for their love, care, and support over his last few years.
