Ronald Denton Obituary

Ronald Ray Denton

Ronald Ray Denton, born February 23, 1955, Kansas City, Missouri, passed away March 28, 2023, from pancreatic cancer. Ron is survived by his wife, Lori Sears; brothers, Steven Denton and Mike Denton; nieces, Paisley Denton and Allison Denton; nephew, Caspian Denton and by his faithful cat, Buster. The son of Raymond and Luella Denton, Ron grew up in Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma and in Jamaica.

Ron was a lance corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps and earned his BS degree from the OSU School of Journalism and Broadcasting where he met his wife, Lori Sears, and thereafter moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Ron was a commercial photographer with Hopkins Photography Company where he learned the craft of photography using a speed graphic camera and processing techniques, such as albumen printing and gelatin silver processing.

Ron sharpened his photography skills after becoming the aerial photographer for Aeromet where he was its project manager for the very first interception of the Theater High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) weapon system: a huge thrill for a boy who dreamed and studied about rockets and spaceships.

Ron was an education manager at American Association of Petroleum Geologists and thereafter created his own business, Silver & Silicon Images, delivering digital production, PDF conversion/publishing, online content management services to his clients.

As a sharpshooter in the U.S. Marine Corps, Ron always enjoyed shooting sports and became a certified NRA instructor and NRA Chief Range Safety Officer. He served as past president and secretary of Sands Springs Sportsman Club and enjoyed participating in its skeet and trap matches. He was also a member of the IDPA and participated frequently in the Arkansas and Oklahoma State Championship matches and was a certified Safety Officer for the matches. Once an Eagle Scout, he always was willing to share his knowledge with Tulsa's Boy Scout Troops, teaching gun safety and practices. Ron was an avid reader of military history and of those who gave their lives in its service.

Ron was a gentleman and a scholar: Ten feet tall, when Ron appeared at your doorstep, you knew your computer was in can-do hands. Ron lit-up the room upon his entry. Always in a good mood despite any hidden hurts. A Professional, Warrior, Scholar, Technologist and - just a pleasant Great Guy - he is very much missed. They broke the mold after Ron Denton. Rest in Peace, Ron. The Karecki's. [email protected]

Hello Lori: Your Ron was one heckuva GREATGUY! His cheerfulness, positive outlook and incredible computer skills were not of this world - they broke the mold after him! He was a guy's-GUY. Rather than curse my constant computer breakdown, I looked forward to the fact that Ron would soon be at my doorstep. Lori, we'll miss him also. It must have been a joy to be his wife these many years. We share with you the many warm memories of him. What a GUY! Don & Lea Karecki, Poland, NY

I am so sorry about his passing. Ron Denton was a student of mine at Oklahoma State University, and no one, even future Pulitzer Prize winners, topped him in grades and assignments in my class. Also, I respect and revere him for the love and loyalty he gave to his spouse, Lori, who means so much to me. Ron was a dedicated spouse who worshipped Lori and embodied that every day in his devotion and caring. He is my hero.

Ron was one of my first photojournalism students as well as my brother-in-law. He was superb technician as well as a devoted husband to Lori. We will miss him and his big heart.
