Vera Marie Willey

Vera Marie Harlan Willey passed away in Norman Oklahoma July 28, 2025. She was 85 years old. Vera was born in Pryor Oklahoma and was one of seven children born to Vera Irene O'Neil Harlan and Samuel Patrick Joseph Harlan. After the death of her parents she moved to Tulsa and attended school there, graduating from Will Rogers High School. She attended Oklahoma State University and later obtained her Masters Degree from the University of Oklahoma. Vera loved music and was an accomplished flute and piccolo player, receiving a scholarship from Oklahoma State University. She was a long time resident of Norman where she was an elementary school teacher before retirement. Vera was active in the Oklahoma Retired Educators Association and enjoyed spending time with retired fellow educators. She was always willing to help organize and serve at gatherings. Vera enjoyed gardening and taking daily walks in her neighborhood. Recently she was thrilled that so many hummingbirds were coming to her backyard feeders. She will be missed by her many nieces, and nephews, her sister Rose Gray of Tulsa, her beloved daughter, Karen Dewees, husband Dan, and Vera's grandson David. Daughter Marie Hamilton, and Vera's grandsons Scott and Corey also mourn her passing.

Interment will be private with family only attending. However, memorial contributions can be made to Operation School Bell, a program to assist clothing disadvantaged children. To make a monetary donation in memory of Vera Willey, please mail to: Assistance League of Norman.
