William Braun Obituary

William O. Braun

(1952 - 2025) - William "Bill" O. Braun died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025, from complications due to Parkinson's Disease after a prolonged battle against the disease.

Bill was born in September 1952, in Port Arthur, Texas. The Braun family moved several times during Bill's childhood, living for various periods in California, Delaware, Texas, and West Virginia. Bill attended the University of Oklahoma (1970-74) and graduated with a Journalism degree. He spent short stints at the Newkirk and Lawton newspapers in Oklahoma and at the Sherman, Texas, paper, learning his trade. Bill was a longtime Tulsa World court reporter from 1981 through 2014.

After Bill retired, the Tulsa County Bar Association honored him in 2015 with the Liberty Bell Award in recognition of meaningful contributions to the association as well as the justice system.

The Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame inducted Bill as a member in 2023 for lifetime achievement; members are those who have made extraordinary contributions to journalism, the First Amendment and freedom of information causes.

Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Mary M. Braun; father, Thomas R. Braun; and a brother, Andy. Bill is survived by a brother, Don, who lives in North Carolina.

Bill enjoyed most sports and running. He competed in the Tulsa Run 15K numerous times. He also coached Little League baseball with good friend Rex Horning.

He loved the Oklahoma Sooners football team, supporting it with contributions and annual game ticket purchases. Bill was a man of faith, a Christian gentleman and a regular church attendee.

Bill had absolutely great home healthcare during his long fight against Parkinson's Disease. The stellar assistants included coordinator Meggan W. Myers, DeAnn Rohr, Justin Turner, Joe Treseder, Claudette Phillips, and Allen Dicus. Mere words can't express how grateful we are for the assistance given to Bill by these wonderful people. Bill spent the last months of his life at Tulsa Nursing Center.

Bill was always so nice and funny. When I worked in Criminal/Traffic Court at the Tulsa County Courthouse, he would come by almost every day. He was such a good guy. I´m sorry for your loss.
