David Partlow Obituary

Dr. David Beeson Partlow Jr.

Services for Dr. David Beeson Partlow Jr., who died on June 17th, 2021, will be at 2:30 on Monday June 21st, 2021 at Christ Episcopal Church. The Reverend Paul C. Elliott will officiate.

Dr. Partlow was preceded in death by his parents Dr. and Mrs. David Beeson Partlow Sr.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Cecelia Jackson Partlow; his two sons, David Beeson Partlow III and his wife Stephanie, and Jackson Phelps Partlow and his wife Sarah; his three daughters, Mary Jane and her husband Branham McGraw Moore, Cecelia Nixon Partlow, and Margaret Petrey Partlow, all of Tuscaloosa. He is also survived by his three grandchildren; Ford Bromley Partlow, Cecelia Robinson Moore and Branham McGraw Moore Jr.

Dr. Partlow was a graduate of Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA, Vanderbilt University and the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. He completed his residency of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, TX, where he was appointed as chief resident.

Upon moving back to Tuscaloosa he practiced medicine with his father. In 1986, Dr. Partlow started a private OB/GYN practice, and grew it into Partlow, Harbin & Poist, an important medical group that has served the West Alabama community. Dr. Partlow served as chairman of the DCH Regional Medical Center OB/GYN department. He was an Associate Professor with the Capstone Medical Center, teaching medical students and training residents. During his career, he was an active member of The South Central Obstetrical and Gynecological Society. Dr. Partlow was instrumental in creating the labor and delivery room at DCH Regional Medical Center, and he was a founding member of the Tuscaloosa Surgical Center.

In the midst of his medical career, Dr. Partlow began a venture into aquaculture. He started Partlow Farms in the late 1990's raising catfish in Boligee, AL. What started as a small operation slowly grew into a productive and sustainable business. He has consistently been involved in the industry and served as a board member of The Catfish Farmers of America. Dr. Partlow's farm was a great source of pride and satisfaction, and he loved being there immensely. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his family and friends on Windy Hill.

Honorary pallbearers are Karl Harbin, Dayton Hale, Tommy Snow, Bill Baker, Brad Cork, Jim Brooks, Jimmy Hinton, Abner Patton, Tom Patton and Stephen Fitts.

Special thanks to Hospice of West Alabama doctors, nurses and staff. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the David B. and Mary Beth Partlow Nursing Scholarship at The University of Alabama, or Hospice of West Alabama.

Dr Partlows father delivered me and my brother , and Dr Partlow Jr. became my moms doctor in her latter years, and was mine, he delivered my daughter and he always had a smile on his face, and put you at ease no matter what the issues were, that is a physicians gift, and not have that,I would take him fresh tomatoes in the summer and bake brownies , because that is my language of thanks and love, I will always remember that he called my mom to check on her at home several weeks after she had breast cancer surgery, meant so much to her..... I was said when he retired, I was devastated when he was taken too soon, he was an exceptional doctor, and we felt blessed to have two generations of doctors care for our family....he will be missed always!!!

Dr. Partlow was the best! He never judged me for becoming pregnant at the age of 17 and he always treated me with respect.

Dr. Partlow delivered all three of my babies and I wouldn’t have wanted anyone else. I was a bit of a rare case and did all the studying he could to do what was best for me and my babies. I will never forget him for helping me bring my three miracles into this world. He was greatly loved and his family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Partlow. He was my mother´s OB/GYN and delivered me. He became my OB/GYN and would always ask about my mother up until he retired. It made my heart glad when I would run into him still visiting the office or at Warren Tire and Auto. It was my desire that he would be present at the delivery of my own child. May God be a comforter to the family during this time.

I am so very sorry to learn of David's passing, far too soon. I knew him in high school, and am friends with his sister Nikki. He gave so much to his community. Tuscaloosa will be a poorer place without him.

It is true that a man can be measured by the way he treats his fellow man. Dr David Partlow Jr, was the personification of this saying. He treated everyone with incredible kindness and fairness. He was a fantastic doctor from our first days in residency. He was a consummate gentleman, a true friend to all, and loved his family more than anything in the world. We will miss him dearly as a friend and colleague. This picture was during our residency years in Dallas at a local sporting event.

My deepest sympathy to David´s family for the loss of this fine man. We were good friends at Vanderbilt, went on to different med schools and life´s pathways unfortunately never recrossed. I wish they had, but I had no doubt he would be a fine husband and doctor and father . It has been years since our young families exchanged Christmas cards, but I remember and Cecelia I hope to meet you one day in person . So sorry for your loss . Peace of our Lord be with you . John.
