Lemual Fikes Obituary
Mr. Fikes was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Louvata Harris Fikes, brother, Richard Fikes, and a son, Robert Fikes.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Pate Fikes, his daughter, Mary Elizabeth "Sissy" Compton and her husband, Lee, all of Greensboro. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley Fikes Waddell (James) of Greensboro, and his brothers, Don Fikes (Joyce) of Greensboro and Gene Fikes (Betty) of Auburn. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Chase Compton of Greensboro, Ashley Clary (Ryan) of Greensboro, and Cleo Hodgens of Auburn. Mr. Fikes had many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, all of whom were very special to him.
Mr. Fikes was born Feb. 28, 1944, in Perry County to Raymond and Louvata Harris Fikes. He was the owner of Fikes Trucking Company. Gus was a self-employed trucker who provided many services for all local farmers. He was known to be dependable and would always be available to help anyone at anytime. Gus was always helpful to anyone who needed him and passionate about his hobbies. He loved to fix up old trucks and he loved to watch his Southern Academy Cougars play football.
Graveside services will be Sunday, September 21, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Rosemont Cemetery in Uniontown, Alabama. The Reverend Arthur Thomas and Wade McCory will be officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Greensboro Chapel will be directing.
Active pallbearers will be Randy Brown, Jimmy Sealy, Mackey Henry, Michael Osmer, Tommy Langham, Walter Sanders, Bubba Drury, and Gerald Sims.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Charles Gross, Dr. Paul Ketcham, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Gross, employees of Greensboro Farmers Co-Op, staff of DCH, TSICU, Oncology staff at DCH, all of the West Alabama Farmers, and employees and friends at Mustang Oil.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Gus' memory to American Cancer Society, POB 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
