Aaron J. GITIS

Age 90 Left us reluctantly on March 31, 2016 Born in Minneapolis, he graduated from Minneapolis North High in 1943 and served in the U.S. Army 1944-45. He attended University of Minnesota and worked in the family business, A. Gitis Grocery. In 1952 he married Loraine and they raised their family in Roseville. Aaron owned and operated Sonny's Meat Shops and also taught meat cutting at Dakota County Technical College. He retired 1989 to become a full-time grandpa and vegetarian. He was preceded in death by his parents Yehuda "Adolph" and Goldie Gitis, sister Toby (William) Titman and newborn son Pincus. Survived by wife of almost 64 years, Loraine; children Sheldon and Joline Gitis (Steve Miles); grandchildren Dara Miles (Sambo Pen), Erica (Brian) Bowen and Esme Gitis-Miles; great grandchildren Stephanie and Serena Miles; special cousin Larry Greenstein. The family is enormously grateful to the kind staff at Sholom Home West and the compassionate caregivers from Legacy Home Care. Funeral service 1:00 pm SUNDAY at MINNEAPOLIS JEWISH CEMETERY CHAPEL, 70½ & Penn Ave. So., Richfield. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
