Andrew WHALEN Obituary

(formerly Duane Andrew Butwinick) Passed away on March 27, 2017. A man of many talents. Artist. Martial Arts Practitioner. Warrior. Marine. Chef. Father. Philosopher. Kind Hearted Pacifist. Those who knew Andrew only as a young man would be astounded by his transformation throughout life. Young Andrew had a passion for combat and self defense. When he became a father he started down the path of tenderness and compassion. His love for his children Maeve and Colin changed the world for him and they meant the world to him. At the time of his death Andrew was known to all his peers as a kind and loving person. When Andrew said he loved you, you could feel the words and love radiating from his big heart. And if you were lucky, he made you dinner. Andrew is survived by his son Colin Ash Whalen and daughter Maeve Louise Whalen; mother Linda Butwinick and stepfather Paul Lindquist; father Steve Butwinick; brother Jeffrey Duda Butwinick and sister-in-law Jennifer Duda Butwinick; sisters Lainie Butwinick Kelley, Mandy Strenke Weiss and Heidi Strenke. He was a well loved uncle to Rowan Serrano, Vivian Kelley, Delilah Kelly, Avital Duda Butwinick. There are many aunts and uncles and cousins who were all loved by Andrew. To Andrew's many friends he was "Drew". To George Niece & Peter Duerr, he was your "Brother by another Mother". A memorial gathering will be held on Friday March 31st, 2017 from 5PM to 7PM, MN Cremation Society, 1979 Old Hudson Rd., St. Paul, MN 55119.

Hey Duane. I thought I saw you the other day. Then I remembered that I couldn't have... I haven't seen you since we were children, but some of my most cherished memories are with you. I'll never forget you, cousin.

Dear cousin - unfortunately, as adults we were never able to connect. a few phone calls and Facebook. I'm sad about that. As children, you were my best friend, my partner in crime. I think of you often and miss you dearly.

Andrew,
You've been lost so soon and have left many aching hearts missing you. May your beautiful spirit be relishing in the aroma of a decadent Keema or on hunt for the best mushrooms for a gourmet stew- somewhere over the rainbow...

You are missed but never forgotten...

Rest In Power,
Layla

Andrew was my sweet loving warm kind & loveable nephew, when I was at his mother's house, Andrew would come over to help Linda with a meal, when he walked in the door, I'd walk up to him & say..."I LOVE YOU SO MUCH", & he'd say to me..."I LOVE YOU MORE"...
Here's something else Andrew & I would say to each other..."I'd say to him..."YOU'RE MY FAVORITE NEPHEW...& he'd say..."YOU'RE MY FAVORITE AUNT"...
I'll truely miss Andrew, he was & always will be a very special man in my life, it wasn't until the memorial on Friday, but I fineally had to accept the
fact that Andrew was really gone, & I've been crying ever since.
REST IN PIECE ANDREW...WE ALL LOVE YOU, WE ALL MISS YOU VERY MUCH...

Love Always...

My deepest condolences...I remember Andrew as Duane an adorable blonde haired little boy who was a regular playmate of my children, Deb and Jen Gordon...Jay and Lainie came later. My heart goes out to Linda and all of the Butwinicks for this premature and most sorrowful loss. "Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing". K.Gibran. Much love, Lynn Gordon

Andrew(Drew), Bro, Friend, Brother in law. I am glad to have had the honour of being able to have called you by all of these names. You have filled my life with gladness, and love like no other. I will forever miss you and your way of lighting up the room when you where near. I will miss our conversations about life and family, and just anything about cooking. You will forever be missed. Love you Bro.

I was one of the lucky people to have many of Andrew fabulous meals and he would make the best homemade ice cream. He was a very caring man and will be missed. My deepest sympathy to the family
