Donald MAUER Obituary

Age 66, longtime resident of St Paul, MN, passed peacefully at his home in Braham, MN on January 17, 2023 after battling lung cancer and LEMS disease. Jake is preceded in death by his parents, Donald "Jake" Mauer Sr. and Doris (nee Christen) Mauer and father-in-law, Michael M. Tierney. He was a proud graduate of St. Columba Grade School and St. Agnes High School, where he made many lifelong friends. Jake's career was spent working for Awards by Hammond of St. Paul, where he enjoyed his coworkers and customers alike. After his early retirement, Jake and his wife, Teresa, were able to move to Braham, MN, where they enjoyed 15 years of living in the beautiful countryside. Jake was able to hunt and fish often, and share his love of the outdoors with family, friends and grandchildren. His family will remember him as a father who never made excuses, and could always be counted on for being there, present in each and every moment of their growing up. He often coached the boys' youth teams as well as the men's baseball team, Air Freight Unlimited. His fatherly influence and mentorship was felt by many. Jake instilled his values in his sons as well as the importance of being kind and fair to all. He was faithfully devoted to his wife, Teresa, and loved spending every minute with her. The two loved traveling together to see family and friends and attend sporting events. Jake's utmost priority was his family and close friends, and he demonstrated that love through his constant concern for their well being. Jake is a survived by his loving wife of nearly 45 years, Teresa (nee Tierney), as well as his children Jake (Rachel), Bill (Stephanie) and Joe (Maddie); and 10 grandchildren Malia, Lauren, Nick, Jakie, Jack, Maren, Emily, Andy, Sam, and Charles Joseph "Chip". Jake also is survived by his in-laws Phyllis Tierney, Mary Tierney, Mark Tierney, John (Tara Sullivan) Tierney, Jean (Andy) Holt, Coleen (Tim) Boeckman, Mike (Leslie) Tierney, Anne Vance and Joan (Eric) Robey. He is also survived by the long-time companion of Jake's father, Marlene Wardell and her family. The family would also like to recognize Dr. Walter Wilson of the Mayo Clinic, and the entire staff there who offered their loving support while caring for Jake. Jake's visitation will be on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, between 4pm - 8pm at Mueller-Bies Funeral Home, 2130 Dale St. N., Roseville, MN. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at St. Odilia Catholic Church, 3495 Victoria St. N., Shoreview, MN 55126. A one hour visitation will precede the funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you kindly donate to the Catholic school of your choice, the Catholic Athletic Association (CAA), 1079 Summit Ave., St. Paul, MN 55105, or the Mayo Clinic. Our deepest sympathy to the Mauer family. Sorry to hear about the passing of Jake. We knew Jake from his coaching days of our son Chris and the boys teams at St. Columba. He was a very involved, loving and caring Man! I think the boys learned many things from Jake mentoring them. Like the skills to play sports but also many life skills to help them along the way. Jake will be greatly remembered and missed!

Jake was truly an inspirational man

His quick wit, infectious smile and hearty laugh was "trademark Jake"
He never had a bad word to say about Anyone!!! (Except maybe that AL 3rd base umpire in the Twins playoff game against the Yankees that called Joe´s obvious double to left field a foul ball?? Ha!)
Thank you Jake for all the thousands of hours you committed to youth sports coaching......through your leadership and guidance you made each of them not only better skilled in their sport, but more importantly forged their individual character to always strive to be, a better version of themselves in our society!
God Bless you Big Guy! Rest in Peace, dear friend!

Mauer Family,
We are so sorry to hear of your husband, father, and grandfather. Jake was a great guy and he would talk to just about anyone who came up to talk to him no matter where you were at whether it be Fleet Farm or the ball fields. His present will be missed were ever you are going to be.

May the love of God grant you peace,
The love of Friends bring you comfort,
and the love of your dear one live forever in your heart.
Memories keep the one you loved close to you in spirit and thought,
And always in your heart.
Today and Forever.
Thinking of you all with deepest sympathy and lots of love. Our thoughts are with you always.
You have another angel to watch over you forever.

My Dad schooled with John Mauer Sr. at St. Columba. I was school mates with John Jr. at Holy Childhood and we still hang out together to this day. We all know and respect the Mauer's and how they have contributed to our community in so many ways.
May God Bless all the family and all the friends of Jake and may he rest in peace..and may all find peace soon.
