I had an opportunity to work with Doug at Dakota Communities and he was an amazing young man. He was quite at first and as time progressed he opened up and was a great individual to not only work with but to get to know. My deepest sympathy to his parents and siblings. Kathy and family - I am so very sad for each of you, but take comfort in seeing the strong foundation of love and faith you have to support each other through this terrible time. I am glad that we have been able to exchange Christmas photos over the years so that I could see your beautiful children as they grew. I recall at our 2009 30th high school reunion picnic you were finishing a photo collage of Doug growing up for his high school graduation. Ever the devoted mother! Take care. I am thinking of you.

My deepest empathy. I understand that a heart will ache. Losing someone so close will cause another's life to get off balance. But remember that God has a plan and purpose for everything.
Kathy, be strong. This is must be unbearable, but you are an amazing woman with strength. Jackie, bless your heart. Cherish the memories you had with your brother. Doug was one of sweetest young men I have ever known. I had the chance to work with him when he was just 16 years old, at Living Well (formerly Dakota Communities) a home for developmentally /physically disabled adults. I knew even then that Doug would be well liked by many.He was good looking, smart, personable,well mannered and always happy to lend a hand without even being asked. Doug would many times ask me, "Is there anything I can do to help?" I recall one morning how excited he was to go to the grocery store even!!! If I knew how much he liked it, I would have asked him to go for me every week :) He truly had a heart of gold and a beautiful smile. We had many conversations, he expressed his happy moments and his not so happy moments. My heart is truly aching for his entire family, and his girlfriend, Kat. Thank you to all who have shared happy memories and photos......never to be forgotten.
