Dr. Lewis was an awesome humanitarian and genuine friend. I first met him at the Model Cities Clinic and followed him to Open Clinic. He administered medical and human care to both me and my beloved mother who suffered from Alzheimer's. He will remain a void in many patient's hearts. He went way beyond the call of duty. His door was always open to all. To the family: Thank you for sharing a wonderful gentleman.

A classmate, friend, colleague, ideological brother and "a regular". Better known to the crew as "Tuffy", was special kind of guy, keenly observant and had no problem with speaking his mind about what he observed.
I personally have never known him to be without an opinion about anything. We studied together, struggled together and shared triumphs together. His passing leaves a void in many lives and certainly mine. We've had a good run together and I celebrate having the privilege of knowing him.

To the family of Dr. Lewis, I am writing on behalf of my mother Judy Childrey. We are so very sorry for the loss of such a caring, wonderful person, Dr. Lewis was such an important person in my mother's life, he was always there to guide her, he was the one who convinced her to have a mammogram, which discovered the breast cancer, he helped her through the long road of that along with having a heart attack and losing her husband all within 3 years, to his testament, when she moved in with us last summer (over 35 miles away) she refused to find another provider that was closer. I am sure this is one of many stories that will be shared and we want to thank his family for sharing this wonderful man with us and the world. Thank you Dr. Lewis for your compassion, God bless you and your family.

To the family of Dr. Fred Lewis:
I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Lewis. I met Dr. Lewis in 1994 when I was the Executive Director of Model Cities Health Center, Inc. in St. Paul, MN. He was both a good person and an excellent physician. He and I spent many hours discussing how we could deliver quality health care to our patients at the health center whenever he had a break in his day.
He will be missed by all how knew him well.

Sincerely,

Dr. Fred Lewis was my primary physician for more than thirty years. Over that span of time, he became more than just my doctor, he became my friend. Dr. Lewis was the consummate medical professional: he was devoted to his patients, possessed outstanding diagnostic skills, knowledgeable and exceptionally well-informed on all the latest research that could help his patients, and respectful of - and beloved by - his staff. Above all, Fred Lewis was a caring and truly extraordinary physician who listened to his patients, and was dedicated to improving their lives.

When I first began to suffer from an uncommon, painful, and debilitating chronic illness twenty years ago, it was Dr. Lewis who first diagnosed the problem, and guided my treatment. And it was Dr. Lewis who also gave me the hope and confidence that I could overcome my affliction and continue to lead a productive and rewarding life. His thoughtful compassion continues to inspire me today.

He was a healer. Dr. Lewis practiced medicine, not with the all-too-common goal seen today of enriching oneself, but to heal the sick, regardless of their income or social status. His wisdom, sense of humor, and essential caring nature set him above and apart from others in his profession. My health, and my life, are better for having known him.

Peace to his family, and take comfort in the knowledge that your loved one was also loved by the many lives that he touched. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I too feel very sad to learn that Dr. Lewis has died! My mother and I had been patients of his over the years. There was never a time that we felt he did anything but the best he could for us! I just want to express my sorrow to the family, and to let them all know how much I appreciated the care he showed us! May God rest his soul in perfect peace!

Dr.Lewis was the kindest sweetest, man, and Dr, I have ever met. as I waited in the waiting, room,of the clinics nurse would come out usually Martha or Tonya, and ask who is waiting for Dr.Lewis Sr. as Looked around as the norm 99 percent of the patient's raised their hands.. Along and worth while wait. For he had always made you feel at ease what ever was going on .He would joke around and smile and laugh when you told him a joke. I'll tell you the nurse would take your blood pressure he would take it after ten minutes after she took it and it would go down 40 points. That ells me their was a man of God's healing and so so much kindness we will so much miss him and his wonderful smile and his laughter.. Konnie and Forrest we miss you already. God bless you and your family may the angels watch over you..Everyone loved him...What a tremendous, loss..

I remember Dr. Fred Lewis when he was a young doctor at Mt. Sinai Hospital. He was a caring physician, quiet and methodical and thorough. He was taken too young.

Dr. Fred Lewis was my beloved cousin who had a motivating spirit. One summer, I had the privilege of watching him study for exams while he was attending medical school and he ignited the spark in me to think beyond middle school and focus on attending college. He was studious, free thinking, analytical, caring, and most of all a person who sought to better his community by serving others.
