J. HAUGH Obituary

Age 80 Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on March 1st at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. Bob was born July 14, 1937 in Richardton, North Dakota to Charlotte Marie (Klima) and Harold Oliver Haugh. In 1941, he moved with his parents and siblings to his childhood home, 992 St. Clair Avenue in St. Paul, MN. It was in his beloved St. Paul that he would spend the rest of his life. When Bob was just 12, his father died, leaving him the man of the house, a responsibility he willingly embraced, helping his mother and his older sister care for the family, including three younger brothers. Bob attended Cretin High School, where he was a star athlete and earned the nickname Rapid Robert for his speed on the football field. He made lifelong friends there, a true and loyal friend to so many. It was also there that he captured the heart of the love of his life, Angela Berrisford Melady, a student at The Convent of the Visitation. Bob graduated from Cretin and attended St. Thomas College, and on June 11, 1960, he and Angela married at The Church of Saint Luke. They moved into a small apartment on Portland Avenue, quickly followed by their first home on Sargent Avenue, and three children -- John Robert, Stephen Joseph, and Cynthia Mary. In 1976, they moved to Hampshire Avenue, where Kathleen Jane joined the family. In Bob's later years, he and Angela lived in West St. Paul and Mendota Heights. Bob enjoyed a long career in the investment industry. He was a master coach of all sports for his children. Top chef of the household. A legendary fisherman. A very decent golfer. A man who enjoyed watching the horses race. In later years, a jigsaw puzzle and sudoku champion. The legacy of Bob's life is his beloved family. To them, he was an adored husband. A cherished father. An enchanting grandfather. A perfect son. A loyal brother. Bob will be greatly missed by his loved and loving wife of 58 years, Angela, his four precious children and six adored grandchildren -- John (Kate) Haugh; Stephen (Laurie) Haugh and their children, Charles, Ellen, Megan and Frances; Cynthia Haugh; and Kathleen (Andy) Staples and their children, Jack and Jane. Also saying goodbye are his brothers Lawrence (Marcia) Haugh; and William Haugh. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Joan (Jerry) Huna and his brother Thomas (Judy) Haugh. He also will be loved and missed by many cherished nieces and nephews and countless dear family members and friends. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 5th from 4PM to 8PM at O'Halloran and Murphy Funeral Home (575 S. Snelling Avenue in St. Paul, MN), and 1 hr. prior to mass at church Tuesday. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, March 6th at 10AM at Church of the Assumption (51 West 7th Street, in downtown St. Paul), with private burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are kindly directed to the beloved educational institutions of Bob's family, Cretin-Derham Hall, St. Thomas Academy and The Convent of the Visitation.

Angie, Stephen, Cynthia, and the entire Haugh family-
I was so saddened to hear of Bob's passing, I absolutely loved that man! He was always making people the laugh the minute he entered a room. I am so sorry I will miss the services, unfortunately have some family services to attend, so just know that I am thinking of you all and wish so badly I could be there to share in your memories of him tonight and tomorrow. May all of you know how blessed you were to have such a wonderful father/husband! Peace and Love to all of you~

Tom met Bob through grade school sports (St. Mark's vs. St. Luke's!) over 65 years ago and they remained good friends these many years. Bob's trademark has always been his smile.
Tom loved running into Bob at Kowalski's and shooting the breeze with him.
(Actually, Bob loved gently bumping into Tom with his electric cart and saying, "Hi, Tom.")
In spite of his many health challenges in recent years, there was always a smile for everyone from Bob.
He will be missed by so many.
Our love and condolences to you and your family, Angie. Tom and Mary Gerry
