Such an unnecessary tragedy! Our sympathy to the family of Officer Bergeron. Agnes, we are so sorry for the loss of your brother. Not sure where you live now so we couldn't send our heartfelt sympathy directly to you. You played a big part in our lives back in North St. Paul and even though it was quite some time ago, we have never forgotten your gentle way. From what we've read in this guest book, that kindness ran in the family. Please know we are praying for you and hope the pain of such a loss lessens each day.

Dear Family, friends and colleagues of Sgt. Bergeron,
I would like to send heartfelt sympathy for your loss. I didn't know him myself but live near Lake Phalen on the E. side of St. Paul. I hope you find comfort in knowing that you are in the thoughts and prayers of people all over and the community as a whole. I am consumed by deep sadness for all of you. May the lord God ease your pain and sorrow while you grieve. Our lord Jesus is always with you.

Thank you to the police department for protecting and serving us all. It should never be taken lightly what you do for the community. I am so grateful for the entire police force and all that you do.

God bless,
Mr. and Mrs. Zinter and family

Dear Family,
I do not know you but the loss of your husband and father struck me deeply. Several of my family members are police officers. The risks they take each day for others are unfathomable. I am sure he did not want to leave you and in his last moments his spirit was journeying to you. The entire community is holding you up in prayer as you grieve. "For I know well the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for woe; plans to give you a future full of hope." Jeremiah 29 *** God is very near to you.

With gratitude for his life and service,

To the Bergeron family and the Maplewood Police Department:

My office window has a spectacular view of the Cathedral and it was all I looked at Thursday morning. I did not have access to the audio of the services but just to look at the officers lined up on the steps and the grass and the streets surrounding the Cathedral was enough. My heart hurts just as it did five years ago with Sgt. Vick. Heaven is well-guarded now. God bless you.

Bergeron Family,

I was lucky enough to have attended firefighter school with Joe and Gail. My encounters with Joe were brief, but twenty years ago when I was a new EMT Joe unknowingly had a huge impact on my career (life).

As a paramedic Joe never once looked down his nose at the EMTs. Once on a call to a cardiac arrest I had to insert a breathing airway for the patient. Unfortunately the patient passed away. As a "rookie" I felt I did a poor job and was devastated. Joe pulled our crew aside and told us that we did a great job and that despite our best efforts not every patient will survive. He encouraged us to keep trying hard at developing our airway skills and keep working hard. Twenty years later as a nurse anesthetist I insert those breathing tubes every day. If it weren't for Joe's encouragement I may not be doing what I am doing today.

Joe unknowingly placed several solid bricks in my professional foundation. My family and I have benefited from that small deed greatly. I will humbly try to pay it forward.

Thank you Joe.
Thank you all Maplewood police and paramedics.
Thank you all Maplewood firefighters

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

My grandfather retired as a lieutenant from the SPPD in 1990 after 32 years with the department. Thus, when I was growing up I had quite an interest in becoming a cop too. I didn't pursue the dream because I felt the job was too dangerous and stressful for me.

I'm thankful that there are men and women out there who felt differently about the job, men and women who have not only the courage needed to go into work every day knowing that each day could be their last, but also the ability to handle such a difficult and thankless job with a positive attitude. Sgt. Bergeron was one of these fine individuals.

Godspeed sir, and thank you for your sacrifice.
