Kyle EDLUND Obituary

On the evening of August 20, Dr. Kyle Riley Edlund, 58, of Woodbury, died doing what he loved: flying his plane to the cabin. Kyle was born in Denver, Colorado, to Judy and Scott Riley. He lived his early years in California, where he learned to fish and quickly acquired a taste for adventure. At the age of 8, Kyle lost his father in a tragic accident; his mother was remarried to Jim Edlund and the family soon moved to Minnesota. He went on to receive a degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and graduated with honors from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 1987. Kyle opened his private practice, Woodbury Dental Care, in 1989 and was frequently named one of the Twin Cities' top dentists, even serving as team dentist for the Minnesota Wild and St. Paul Saints. After long days working at his office, Kyle volunteered his skills to countless charitable causes, including Hope Dental Clinic, Give Kids a Smile, and other underserved communities. Kyle truly was someone who cared more about his family, friends, and patients than himself. He was an inspiration to his three children, who learned so much from his guidance and example. His humility could be seen in his quiet demeanor, but his actions constantly revealed his selfless generosity. If he knew someone was suffering or needed a hand he would do whatever he could to lift them up or ease their pain. Quiet by nature, Kyle listened and observed before he spoke. His words were always kind and sincere, and his presence lifted the spirits of those around him. Kyle found his home in nature; he loved the forest and sought adventure in the wilderness of the north. Whether fishing, flying, or fixing teeth, he loved a challenge and sought excitement in every aspect of life. Kyle's laugh will never be forgotten, and his legendary spirit will forever inspire those who knew him. Preceded in death by father, Scott Riley; and step-sister, Julie Edlund. Survived by mother, Judy (Jim) Edlund; sister, Megan (Dick) Petkoff; step-brother, Todd (Trish) Edlund; Beth Edlund and children, Calley, Britt, and Gunnar; and grandson, Kyle. A service for Kyle will be held this coming weekend August 29th or 30th. Full details to follow and will be announced by Wulff - Woodbury Funeral Home. Kyle took care of my father’s, (Rudy Aguilar) , teeth. My dad would bring him pies and hot sauce and Kyle would “barter” with him. My dad is 96 and Kyle was so kind to him. My dad said he was such a good man and that he will miss him so much. He put my dad on the cover of Woodbury magazine and he was so proud and appreciative that Kyle did that for him. We are sending many prayers and hugs to your family.
Kyle was an exceptional man♥

Our deepest sympathy goes out to Dr. Edlund’s family and friends. He took care of our family for over 20 years and was such a blessing when we moved here and my 5 year old had to have a couple of teeth pulled and other work. He was so gentle and kind, Spencer didn’t even know, after the major third visit, that he had gotten a shot of Novocain, he was that painless! We always chatted about the kids (Spencer and Britt were the same age) and life. I’m lucky that I got to see him one last time at the end of June. Our prayers are with everyone who is mourning the loss of such a great man, especially his kids.
Sincerely,
The Patterson Family

Kyle was such a super person. We were two of his first patients in Woodbury in 1988 and were still his patients, though we’re in FLORIDA this summer due to the pandemic. It’s just heartbreaking news and we send our condolences to Beth and the children.

Jim and Judy, I was in shock when I heard about your wonderful son Kyle’s tragic death. I know over all the years with Steve he would talk about how great Kyle was and so proud when he graduated from dental school. Your family has been a big part of my life and I have cherished all the great memories of you guys in Wichita with Steve. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with your family through this difficult time. God Bless you both.

I am very saddened and shocked by the news of the passing of Kyle this past week. I will always be indebted to him as he was the one who helped launch me into my dental career by hiring me a new dentist at WDC. It wasn’t long after starting to work with him I realized I was working with someone quite extraordinary. Kyle was not only an excellent dentist he was also an excellent person and great with people. He was kind, positive, encouraging and also extremely generous. Kyle loved and valued his family which was evident in our conversations and he would often randomly ask me about the well-being of my own. I always appreciated that about him. He was very much an inspiration to me and I know to the many others who knew him. To the Edlund & Woodbury Dental Care families - no words can describe how sorry I am for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Growing up with Kyle and Megan. I was the defacto baby sitter that lived next door. I admired Kyle's gift of exploration and his kind ways. It was never surprised by what he accomplished over the years and the Love of his family was second to none. A very giving soul that will be missed by everyone. I'll miss you my friend and throw a few back for me to catch later.

Beth, Judy, Megan and all of Kyle’s family

I was saddened to read about Kyle’s passing and extend my sincere condolences to all of you.

I remember Kyle as an extremely polite teenager coming in to his stepfathers office where I worked for many years. It was my pleasure to have watched Kyle grow from that teenager into a determined college graduate and on to a loving husband, dedicated father, incredibly talented doctor and a wonderful, compassionate person.

My thoughts are with all of you during this difficult life event. Know that God will continue to take each of you under His wing and help you heal your heart, body and mind at your own pace.

God bless all of you

My sincere condolences to the Edlund Family, Kyle's friends (so many), his Kids, Kari Baker, and Dave Riopel.

Kyle is a person I met and got to know over the last 4 or 5 years. We did a lot of boating together and hanging out at his awesome man cave. We had many fun times and laugh's - I loved the fish fry's - I will miss him dearly.

Rest In Peace my friend.

My most deepest and sincere condolences to the entire Edlund Family.

The foundation of your family has been built on your faith, look to both
as they will be your path forward along with the support of your friends and your congregations who will be with you forever.

I have no doubt that Kyle will rest in peace, and his time here will
always be an inspiration to everyone who knew him and many more who will be effected by his unselfish kindness and determination
to make the world just a bit better.
