Age 93 Died February 19, 2015, surrounded by family. Owen was born in Pigeon Falls, Wisconsin, to Olger and Mabel Foss on December 25, 1921. He moved with his parents from Whitehall, Wisconsin to Brainerd, Minnesota, at age eight and graduated from Washington High School in 1939. He attended Brainerd Junior College before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1942 where he served for three and a half years during World War II, part of that time in England with the Eighth Air Force. On May 18, 1943, he was married to Vivian Marlys Ebinger at Langley Field Air Base, Hampton, Virginia. Upon discharge from the service he returned to Brainerd where he owned and operated a grocery store for several years before joining the Pillsbury Company. In 1953 he was transferred to Grand Rapids to manage the Pillsbury Warehouse, later becoming a sales representative. In 1974 Owen joined Century 21. For several years he was an appraiser/assessor for Itasca County, retiring in 1987. Owen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church for over 50 years. He served two terms on the church council, ushered, taught confirmands, and was active in other church and community organizations such as Kiwanis, Jaycees and Toastmasters. In 2004 Owen and Vivian moved to Plymouth to be near family. In 2009 they moved to Lyngblomsten Apartments in St. Paul and joined Pilgrim Lutheran, becoming part of a four-generation family at the church. Preceding him in death were his parents, and his wife of 67 years, Vivian, who died in 2010. He is survived by two daughters, Marsha Foss and Marilyn Foss (Thomas Sherwood), and one son, Greg Owen Foss (Patricia) and four grandchildren, Micah Whetstone (Michele), Jessica Myers (Dave), Alex Foss, and Parker Foss.
