We just wanted to let you know that Judge Fitzgerald married us 31 years ago today, June 16th. We were just kids 22 and 20 years old. We were nervous and the Judge used humor to lighten things up. He was such a warm person and we will never forget that he was part of the reason we not only started but stayed on our life journey together. I always meant to send him a message but time slipped away. Blessings to the family, you were so fortunate to have this wonderful man in your lives.

Thank you all who signed this guest book. My family thanks you for your words and your prayers. I miss my buddy and my DAD so much but thanks to people like you my family can get through this. My Dad was truly a great dad and I hope I can be half of what he was and then I will know I accomplished something in life. Thanks again for all your kind words and for the people who were in warm climates and coudn't make it to Dad's funeral he understands he would have done the same. He was a great pal and a great friend and I miss him so much I wish I could still talk to him face to face but I still talk to him everyday and I know he is still with us and he would say be on time and remember the only thing in life that matters the most is Family and he is right. Dad I love you and I miss you so much I wish I had more time with you. I love you your son.

Dear Coke and family---- How we will miss dear Pat! Both you and Pat, Coke, have always been such rays of sunshine--your warm smiles just lit up a room. As a couple, you have had such a wonderful zest for living and you have lived life with such gusto! Your giving, loving, and most generous hearts have always been in evidence---both of you have done so many caring, wonderful things for others. To know you has been to love you both! George and I have such admiration for you. May God bless you and your ever so special family most abundantly.

Mrs. Fitzgerald, Patty, Bill and all,
My heart goes out to your entire beautiful family today. My father actually called me from northern Minnesota to share the sad news. My mother died with Alzheimers in my home a year and a half ago, and when I returned to Good Shepherd for her funeral I thought of you, Mrs. Fitzgerald and your wonderful husband. My mother knew Judge Fitzgerald from her youth in Rochester I believe and she always thought so much of both of you and your wonderful, large, and loving family. I was blessed to have been befriended by Patty in grade school and then spent a year or two commuting to high school with Bill (who will always be at bit of a Billy to me.)
Mrs. Fitzgerald, God bless you for your devotion to your wonderful husband. You two remind us all of the beauty of faith and love. May Judge Fitzgerald rest in peace, and may you all be held in prayer, love, and support at this difficult time.
With my deepest sympathies,
Maria (Pederson) Bragonier

Dear Coke and family:
Condolences from Dad and I on the loss of Pat. The judge, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, will be greatly missed.
I will always remember his laugh, the judges' conferences as a child, and the sound of ice clinking in glasses as you all partied the nights away.

I had a lot of fun teeing it up with Judge Fitzgerald during adventures with the MGA. He was very helpful in providing insight into Minneapolis history for a play I helped write, and was a master tale teller during and after a round. Never a dull moment in his company, and a credit to real characters everywhere. He gave a lot to the game of golf and the whole community. My sincere condolences to his family.

I hope that there are computers in heaven so that you can read this little passage. I miss you sooo much. You were the best grandpa in the world. I loved going to Arizona with you every year. Dear Coke and Family,
Sorry I couldn't attend the funeral of my dear friend and colleague, Patrick. We had many good times together, golfing and attending conferences etc. Pat was also my Constitutional Law Instructor at the Minneapolis College of Law many years ago-and a good teacher he was.
Polly and I came to Arizona in early December sadly to bury our dear son, David(53), who died after a very long year of two failed liver transplants.
Last week we left our grieving daughter-in-law. We'll ride out the winter here in Oceanside til mid-March.
We send our deepest condolences to you, Coke, and all your family.
Sincerely,
Judge Posten and Polly

Dear Coke and Family,
Such a surprise to hear of Pat's death. I so enjoyed time with both of you on Father Arnold's trip to Paris...such fun, family loving people you are! Later I would run into you at various occasions and always got a kick out of Pat's sense of humor. Ironically, I was thinking of him last Saturday...folding laundry...his comment about "Billy growing up in the Nylon Jungle" always makes me laugh! Then I heard the news...
Heaven needs another Irishman and you all will be "well watched over" for eternity.

Dear Coke and Fitzgerald Family, We are deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Judge Patrick. The last time I saw him he attended my mother-in-law's (Beverly Bendell Thorbeck) funeral and was full of good humor and love. He was indeed a special man that I have heard many stories about through the years. May the love of family and friends carry you through this time of sadness.

Dear Mrs Fitzgerald and Family,
Our prayers and thoughts are with you all as you mourn and celebrate your Dad's life. What a wonderful man and role model for all of us trying to live our faith.
I saw your father twice in the past several years. The first time he was delivering the most amazing homemade apple pie to my Mom and Dad's home while our Mom was battling cancer. My parents were deeply touched by "Pat and Cokes" love and generosity. Then more recently, I ran into your Dad as he was heading into Eucharistic Adoration at Our Lady of Grace. He had a huge smile as we said hello! Two encounters and both filled with service and devotion to others and his faith. What a lesson for all of us.
God Bless you all and our sincerest condolences,

Fitzgerald Family-
Your dad, the "Judge", will be missed greatly.
Over the years we have so enjoyed his presence at BSM and the many homecoming spaghetti dinners and other events where he and your mom would attend.
As a Riley, I remember fondly our ski trips to Quadna. How your dad remained so calm with every one of you piled into that big hotel room, ten million hair dryers and curling irons, I will never know!
We send our best and are grateful for the many years our families have enjoyed the friendship of raising kids.
Peace,

Dear Coke and family,
I was very saddened when I learned of Judge Fitzgerald's passing. He will be greatly missed and always remembered for the kind, thoughtful and compassionate person he was. He had an infectious laugh and it would always bring a smile to my face.
He had a great knowledge of the law and many would stop by his chambers seeking his input. It would always tickle me a bit to hear attorneys in the elevator on many an occasion worrying about being on time for Judge Fitzgerald. He would tell wonderful stories about his childhood and family and Coke and her family and of course the kids and then the grandkids. You could always see the love Pat and Coke had for each other and their wonderful family.
St. Patrick's Day was always very special for this Irishman. You could see the twinkle in his eye.
It was always nice to see Beth and Patty in Juvenile Court and to catch up on how the family was doing. I knew I could always see how much Beth's kids were growing as she always carried pictures along.
I always love the Christmas family photo. I've saved them all.
With deepest sympathy to each of you and you're in my thoughts and prayers.
God Bless You,
Linda Renner

This must be a very difficult time for the Fitzgerald family. He loved each of you and there is no denying the loss. My guess is that the Judge has found a place that gives him ready access to a golf course, a courtroom and a perch to watch over each of his children and grandchildren. Judge Fitzgerald was a remarkable man. I tried my first jury trial before him. He was quite understanding. When I was appointed to the bench I played golf in a tournament for William Mitchell. I won and the Judge who had won for many years was less understanding. What Pat Fitzgerald was for many people and particularly for me was a terrific mentor and role model. We will all miss him. The Fitzgerald Family,
I can hardly think of day in my childhood without a memory of your family...kickball in the street, sledding in your yard, eating or sleeping over at your house, Mrs, Fitzgerald shouting "praise the Lord" whenever appropriate:) Yes, judge Fitgerald could be a little scary when Beth and I were in trouble (which was alot):)but, what I remember most is his smilling face and great laugh. My father also passed after a long battle with Alzheimer's and ultimately cancer. Through my sadness I found great joy in the fact that although the Alzheimer's took him away in life, my father could be whole again in death. I believe that he went straight to the first hole to meet upwith his foresome. It also makes me so happy to feel that I can speak to my father everyday, and he can hear and understand my words. I'm sure he wants me of people to stop talking! I know it sounds funny but enjoy this time of reminiscing and celebrating his wonderful life. I will be thinking of your family tomorrow as I do often. Beth, please give your mom a hug and a kiss for me. God bless to all!

Dear Beth and Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you as you grieve the loss of this wonderful family man. As hard -working and important his work was, he always chose family first. Condolences to the Fitzgeralds, especially Kathy who was an indispensible help to me at our law firm thirty-odd years ago. We have all lost our "Man for All Seasons." Whatever Pat did, he did with distinction and honor I knew him as my evidence mentor at Mitchell, in his courtroom, and on the golf course. I have never met a better man.

I was privileged to have Judge Fitzgerald as a member of a 'Your Story' tour at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts last summer. His participation was a joy--he showed his sense of humor, his interest in travel (especially Ireland!) and his vast knowledge as we toured the museum and looked at paintings that were designed to bring forth life memories. He was a wonderful member of the group! And as his tour leader, he kept me on my toes! I helped him with his hat and jacket and he shared with me how proud he was of his family and how he loved living at home where they could all gather. In my short hour with him I came to know him as a wonderful man. You were so fortunate to have had him in your lives. My sincere condolences to all of you.

Patrick was a wonderful man with compassion, wisdom and love of life that touched so many people.
I was a young woman who had been working as a legal secretary for his younger brother, Michael, at Fitzgerald & Crandall, less than a year, when Pat was appointed to the municipal court bench under Governor Anderson. Yet, I had already formed such a loyalty, respect and trust in him as not only my employer, but also as a man of honor, who along with his brother, and their families brought you under their wings, as they welcomed you into their circle of extended family.
My heartfelt sympathy to Coke, all their children and grandchildren, as well as Michael and the rest of the Fitzgerald clan. May the memory of that special sparkle in his eye, that knowing grin and all encompassing hug be with you always in the days ahead.
May the good Lord bless and keep you, and may you rejoice in having had such a wonderful man in your life.
It was an honor and privilege to know him.

Dear Fitzgerald Family,
I was greatly saddened to learn of Pat's passing. Having grown up around the Fitzgerald family (Coke, Kathleen, Peggy, Beth, Bill and Sheila), I will always remember all of your kindness and your father's great spirit! He was a good man. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

I first met Judge Fitzgerald in 1970 as a young clerk in Municipal Court. He was always kind, friendly and funny. He became a Judge and then one of the bosses. I went to law school where he was a teacher. I practiced law in front of him and he was still kind and friendly. I always considered him a friend first and every thing else second. I will think of him often.

Judge Fitzgeral scared us all. The result was that we were on time and prepared.
If you proved your professionalism, you got to see a softer side. He allowed a continuance so that I could tend to my grandmother in N.Y. He loved it that I married a guy named Sullivan and gave my sons Irish names. He often reminded us "family first" and that was the example he set.
He set the bar around here and we were fortunate to be held to his high standards. Beth continues to carry those high standards with her in her practice.
Thank you for sharing him with us.

Judge Fitzgerald was a great judge and an even greater family man. You have my deepest sympathy for your loss. When I was a new public defender, there was no one I respected more or was more frightened of. He made me (and I'll bet lots of others) a more punctual person.

Your father saved my bacon on more than one occasion. He was the Chief when I started. He scared the heck out of me at first. Mick Lord called me this morning with this sad news. I first knew the Judge as a close friend of my father's in the "old days" of politics and sometimes law. Just a tag-a-long kid who got to listen to the adults talk, joke, smoke a cigar and enjoy each others company. The Judge always had the best joke and the greatest laugh. Later, I was privileged to sit in his evidence class at Mitchell. He was pr the most efficient, precise, demanding yet compassionate teacher we had and we all loved him for it. One very good man who touched a lot of people over the years.

Dear Beth and family, I enjoyed very much visiting with your father in recent years when I would see him downtown on occasion. He swore me in when I was 8 1/2 months pregnant with my oldest son, now 25. When that same son was about a year old, he was sick one day and although George ended up staying home with him, it made me late for a sentencing hearing with his Honor. When I told him why I was late (on the record so all who had waited for me could hear) he fell over himself with sincere sympathy and concern for my son. He really loved children and that is the Judge Fitgerald I will remember.

Judge, thanks for everything.
You reinforced for me the importance of being on time to court--happily through letting some other poor sap have it in my presence.
You were a great mentor in the bar association on several committees and it was always great to have your perspective as a member of the bench and a longstanding member of the legal community. (usually) level-headed and always sound advice.
It was also fun to see you on the golf course and I think as much as you loved law you would have rather been on the course.
Your family should be proud of all you've accomplished and how many people you've influenced.

To: Elizabeth Scott and the Fitzgerald Family, I wanted to express my sympathy for your loss. I knew your father for over 20 years back when I worked at Operation de Novo, I left de Novo in 2001 and did not get to see him as often. He always seemed a good and fair man as well as in his role as Judge of District Court, of course unless you were late. But it was his penchant for starting on time that makes me smile when I think of him. So remember him the way you loved him and he will always live in your hearts.

We share your loss of your father, husband, grandfather and family cheer leader. Pat was a good friend and we shared lives as Chief Judge through thick and thin. His advice and council were appreciated, and often sought. Pat was loyal, steadfast, ran a tight ship, and knew and followed the law very well. Not bad qualities for an excellent trial Judge.

Dear Fitzgeralds:
We are so very sorry to see the passing of the good Judge. He was always a fine man. My memories began in October 1966 when the Durda Family had the good fortune to move in next to the Fitzgeralds and we sat at the Fitzgerald compound to meet and become better acqainted. It seems like yesterday!
My brothers Johnny, Jim and I stayed in shape in winter months shoveling snow from the Fitzgerald driveway before school and we stayed tan in summers, in part, by cutting the Fitzgerald grass and an occasional shrub too! (sorry!)
We learned you could tan yourself in 65 degree temps with foil, and, knew Catholic girls were attractive from the musings of next door!
I alway saw Pat walking in later years, and, it was alway a pleasure to run out and visit with him and catch up while he walked around the block on Sylvan Ridge while he visited Peggy, Leon, Kaitlin and that world-class famous "Mocha" dog lover, Julia, and her fine brothers! Her poor brothers always having to come to the Durda home to reel her back home!
Some fine folks may think Pat and Chester never got along, but, this was hardly the case. My father kept a fine and funny scroll he received from Pat from a neighborhood party after his 1974 election-run for the County Attorney's race...A scroll promising, most humourously, that he would never ever run again! A scroll Dad kept with relish!
From all his fine work in the community, I remember Pat's commitment to Lectoring at 8:15AM Mass nearly every Sunday. A wonderful and fine example for kids of my age of his commitment to something much larger than he...a man with much to be proud.
A fine, learned and accomplished man departs us, yet, so many wonderful family members he leaves behind to continue on with a part of him.
We shall alway miss him, but, be so ever grateful we met long the way!!

Dear Coke and family,
We were shocked and saddened to hear of Pat's death. We were unaware of his failing health. Oh the wonderful memories we have of our times together with the Fitzgeralds and the Barristers group.
Pat was the person who had tremendous influence on our lives, as he was the professor who led Frank to the law firm of Hvass, Weisman and King where he spent his entire legal career.
The name Judge Pat Fitzgerald will always bring a smile to our face and memories of "the best of times."
Frank joins me in sending love and prayers to your wonderful family.

To the Fitzgerald family.
We were so sorry to hear of the loss of the Judge. He will be deeply missed.
I can't help but return to my youth in my thoughts and recall caddying for Judge and realizing even then that he was teaching me so much more about life than golf. The values he helped instill have acted as a guiding force throughout my life. He was an excellent mentor and I am very proud to have called him a friend.
God bless Fitzgeralds.

Dear "Coke" and family,
Judith and I send our condolences to you all. Patrick was one of my favorite people and was, as Paul McGough would have said, "One of God's Noblemen." A judge who deserved the title of Honorable, Patrick was held in high regard by those who appeared before him. There was never any doubt who was in charge in his courtroom. Patrick had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh, especially on the golf course. I looked forward to golf games with Pat and Don Lay, who loved to needle each other, especially when both were Chief Judges of their respective courts. But most I remember the delight he took in you all, who were always the center of his life.

Dear Fitzgerald family,
We lost a legal icon and a family man who laughed, loved and lived with an Irish flair and a wife who is the definition of devotion. As a lawyer I always enjoyed the stories he shared as we ran into him in the reserved front "Fitzgerald Row" at the school concerts and other activities of his grand-kids. It was so obvious that the Pat and Coke Fitzgerald love that poured down to their wonderful children and more amazing grand-kids is the legacy that this truly accomplished judge, teacher, church and community leader was most proud of.
We will miss his welcoming smile and the glint of his eyes, but will forever treasure sharing that Fitzgerald family love.
May God Bless You Always,
Tom and Kathy Kruse
