Only met him a few times on the tennis court, but enjoyed playing against him.My sympathy to his family and I will light a candle for him at mass Sunday.I think Pat was an ex-marine,so I will end with Sempre Fi from one Marine to another.

A great friend with an Irish wit, a fierce competitor on the tennis courts, and a great partner to have who fought to the finish, and win or lose, have a smile on his face and ready to go for the next game.
As testified by others who knew Pat from the tennis courts, it was clear that his great hockey skills transferred from the ice to the court. At the net, even in his later years, he dared an opponent to try to pass him with a well-placed shot. His hands were quick and his ballet moves on the court resulted in many points won and exceedingly few lost. It was far better to be his partner than be an opponent. We missed him greatly when he was no longer able to play.
Pat was a good neighbor for many years too, living just down the block from us. He enjoyed a visit and a good story, and had many of his own. He was a man of faith and a delight to know as a friend.
Our sympathies and prayers to all the family.

May you rest in Peace, beloved tennis friend and St. Paul historian .
We all loved knowing you, in spite of our difficulties ever getting a tennis ball past your formidable net defense. Keep the tennis court warm up there for when we all meet again.
