Robert "Bob" STENSTROM

Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and Friend Passed away on September 20 2013 surrounded by family in Rochester MN. Bob was born in Big Springs South Dakota on July 19, 1930 to Ivar and Ruth (Carlson) Stenstrom. He grew up on a farm, attended a one room school house and graduated from Alcester High School in 1948. Bob enlisted in the Air Force where he taught radar equipment usage while stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi during the Korean War. Bob graduated from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion and earned his Master's Degree in Physics from the University of Minnesota. Bob taught Astronomy at Augsburg College early in his career. He was then employed as an aeronautical engineer with Honeywell for many years and worked on several space programs including the Gemini, Apollo and Space Shuttle programs. Bob was an avid astronomer and a gifted teacher. He loved painting, photography and gardening. Bob will be remembered for his great sense of humor and fun loving spirit. Bob is survived by his wife Joyce (Peterson) Stenstrom and first wife Phyllis (Bergdale) Stenstrom and their three daughters Marcia Cozzolino, Rebecca Leblanc (Bill) and Sue Nelson. Also survived by brother Warren Stenstrom (Lois); grandchildren: Dave Cozzolino, AJ Schulz, Kate Cozzolino Benvenuti, Ali Schulz Gordon, Jamie Nelson, Tom Cozzolino, Lindsey Nelson and Tessa Leblanc, 4 great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by his parents, brother Roger, sisters Frances and Janice Stenstrom. Memorial Service 11 am Friday, Sept. 27 at First Presbyterian Church, 512 3rd St SW, Rochester MN. Memorials preferred to World Vision.
