Shannon Pulver Obituary

Pulver, Shannon Murphy Former Owner and President Of Frank Murphy, Inc. Shannon was the only child of the late Frank and Madeline Murphy and beloved niece of Blanche (Buddy) and Dorothy (Dotes) Reynolds. She graduated from Convent of the Visitation School (1957 valedictorian), St. Paul, MN and Manhattanville College (1961), Purchase, NY. She was the former owner and President of Frank Murphy, Inc. a specialty women's clothing company with two stores in St. Paul, MN at 5th & St. Peter Street and Highland Village, and a third store in Wayzata, MN. The business was started by her father in St. Paul during the early 1930s. The downtown St. Paul store was, for over half a century, the focal point for women's fashion and a gathering place for the area's fashionable women. The store's famous annual "Give Away Sale" was held, across the street from the store, at the St. Paul Hotel where customers from near and far became part of local, national, and overseas television coverage. Shannon purchased clothing for her stores in America and abroad, and became a personal friend of many of the era's top fashion designers. She is survived by her husband John, daughters Posh Jesmer and Zoe Pulver and step children Catharine Schwartz, Celia Thrall and Laird Pulver, their spouses and step grandchildren Catriona Schwartz, Gilbert and Alicia Thrall. A former long time resident of Kenwood Parkway in St. Paul, and in recent years divided the year between Bear Dance, the family's retreat in northwestern Wisconsin, and their home on Hutchinson Island, Fort Pierce, FL. She will be dearly missed by her family and many, many friends. There will be a service at The Assumption Catholic Church, 51 7th St. W., St. Paul on Thursday August 28, 2008 at 10AM.

Shannon has been the best friend to my Mother, blessing all of us Cron kids with so many memories. The Frank Murphy boxes showing up every Christmas, meeting her "beau" John and knowing how happy she was to have beautiful Posh and Zoe arrive in her life. Going to the Race track in Fla. and to this day betting on a gray horse just for her! Not to mention the many Y&R fans she attracted all these years! This world has been a better place with her smile, sweet voice and laugh, great sense of style and love of life.
I will miss her dearly and have been honored to have her and John in my life in Duluth these last two summers.
All my love to Posh, Zoe and John. xxoo-Shannon #2

Dear John, Posh and Zoe,
Please know that Shannon and all of you are in my thoughts and prayers at this sad time.
I have such fond and happy memories of Shannon from the first and second grades at Vis. I would come to her house and we would play in the attic amongst .beautiful clothes, then have a wonderful game of Monopoly.I moved away but came back to St. Paul and Vis for high school. We were such good buddies! I can well remember Clara's great cookies and her chocolate souffle, it was such a sedate and sophiticated setting compared to the chaos of the DeLong household with 5 kids! I was with Shannon in her powder room as she practiced her valadictorian speech on graduation day.
I worked with her at Frank Murphy's for a short time and Shannon was a bridesmaid in our wedding.
She was a dear person. She will be deeply missed.
Love, Suzie

Dear Zoe-Zoe and Family, I am so sorry for the loss of your dear mother! I met her at your committment ceremony and loved her exuberance and fashion sense! I know she gave much to the community and served on many boards she CARED deeply. I know that Shannon's family gave Gordon Parks the opportunity to become the prominent photographer and artist he became in spite of segregation. That took guts. She inspires me! Take care as you grieve-XXOO Hugs, Sylvia Secrest (Bergh)

To John and girls
I worked at Frank Murphy's from the time Shannon was born. I cannot even hope to rememer all the 40 years but was there until Shannon sold the business. I was blessed to know her parents who hired me when I was about 22 years old. In looking back over the 67 years I met a lot of wonderful people.
One last great thought....Shannon wrote a note to her mom every nite without fail and to this day I treasure many letters from Mrs.M. This was a endearing way to stay close to people important to them.
Hope to see all the Murphy's in heaven and I think of them every nite
in my prayers.

Shocking pink, stories about socializing with THE Halston, and watching old movies at the cabin are but a few things that come to mind when thinking about Shannon Divine.

She will certainly be missed, but the planet is a better place because of her.

Love and Light to the Pulvers during this difficult time.

I am so sorry to the Murphy/Pulver family - especially to Zoe! My sister Lindy went to Visitation and was very good friends with Zoe throughout the time at Vis. Zoe used to come over for family car rides, when our moms would be shopping at Frank Murphy. Shannon was such a graceful, glamous, well-spoken and always the gracious host. She was close with my mom, Sandy. I believe she even provided the fashion for the Minnesota Club fashion show. I remember Shannon having me come and housesit on a weekend and also helping to choose my VIS Graduation dress. I still have the dress and the polk-a-dotted dress from Silver Bell. Shannon was such a delight to listen to and be around.

Posh, Zoe and John - The Fleming are thinking of you at this time. You are in our prayers.
Love, Marnie

First and formost my heart goes out to Zoe and the rest of her family for the loss of Shannon. For those of you who don't know me, I have been a friend of Zoe's for at least 10 years. With that being said, Shannon was like a second mom to me, always there when I needed to lend a helping hand, seeing me through any situation and ALWAYS having a great laugh.

I have so many great memories I wouldn't even know where to begin. From putting on talent shows, dancing with pink feather boas, playing practical jokes on each other, or swinging on the swing up at the cabin and just enjoying each other's company, Shannon had a heart of pure gold.

The countless memories I take with me and will hold so close to my heart will be there forever. Every time I think of Shannon I cannot help but to smile, I know she would want it that way.

My heart goes out to you Zoe and your entire family. I am deeply sorry.
