Thomas LANGLOIS Obituary

Of St. Paul, MN was called home by the Lord on January 10, 2021. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on July 13, 1930 the son of Louis and Clemence Langlois. He was preceded in death by his brother and sisters Helen Miller, Agnes Clymer, Andrew Langlois and Audrey Connolly. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Rose (Schoch) Langlois, seven children Ann Yekaldo (Fred), Aimee Holt, Steve Langlois (Michelle), Bob Langlois, Tom Langlois Jr, Paul Langlois (Meggie) and Jennifer Erler (Dennis). He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren with his tenth great grandchild due in August, 2021. Tom graduated from Harding High School in 1949 and was a St. Paul boy through and through. He served his country as an Army infantryman in the Korean War. Tom retired from First National Bank of St. Paul after 25 years and was ordained in 1976 in the first class of Catholic deacons for the St. Paul/Minneapolis Archdiocese. He served as a deacon at St. Matthews Catholic Church in St. Paul, St. Joseph's Catholic Church in West St. Paul and St. Gregory's Catholic Church in North Branch, MN. As a deacon he fought for social justice and lived a life of sacrifice including moving his family of nine in 1972 to a townhouse in a new low-income housing development, Torre De San Miguel on the West Side of St. Paul, to serve the community. Tom was an amazing human being and lived a life filled with love, friends and family. He was the patriarch of the Langlois extended family and if anyone needed someone, they always knew they could count on Uncle Tom for help or guidance. Most importantly, he had a true, long lasting love affair with his wife and sweetheart Elizabeth. He loved his family first but also any Minnesota sports team, especially the Wild. He also loved eating pork chops, hot dogs and booya, playing cribbage, the Minnesota State Fair and heading up north to Lake Superior. Tom was the most positive person and would always find the good in every situation. He was a role model for his children, grandchildren and great-grand children and his legacy will live on forever through the incredible family he and Liz created. Donations preferred to Little Sisters of the Poor. A memorial service, for immediate family only, will be held on January 21st, 2021 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church of West St. Paul and will be live streamed. A large celebration of his life will be held this summer and the details will be published once they are finalized.

Dear Langlois Family, I have very dear memories of Paul and all of you. My folks were friends with Paul Sr and "Betty" and I remember coming to West St Paul to visit after you moved there in the 70's. Obviously his light shines on in the hearts of all those he met and helped throughout his long life.

Steve, Paul, Jenny and the entire family. My heart is with you during this difficult time. Know that hearing you Dads name brings back nothing but the best of memories. Baptizing Nolan, Steve´s Warehouse, and many intimate conversations. As you all know he was really special.

Betty and family, It has been many years since I have seen you or Tom, but I do have memories of a wonderful couple, devoted, loving, and of service to many. It sounds like Tom continued in the giving of himself for others and has touched so many lives. I shared being a Godparent to Sam Stevens with Tom many years ago. Life goes by so fast and in the blink of our eyes we are in our later years of life. I think to know Tom is with the Lord must be such a comfort for you even though I am sure he will be greatly missed. Sending prayers for comfort in your grief. Patty

Dear Elizabeth, Ann, Aimee, Steve, Bob, Tom, Paul, and Jenny
Our hearts go out to you in the passing of your dear Tom. He was an important man in our life and we will cherish his memory always. We were honored to have him as godfather to our son Sam, and he baptised several of our kids. We are grateful for the times of life and laughter we shared. May you be comforted as he watches over you in the presence of the Lord.
Here's a throwback photo from 1985 celebrating Sam's birthday.

To Elizabeth and family,
I was saddened to hear about Tom passing away. He is part of my earliest memories, family outings at Cursillo events, gatherings at Torre De San Miguel, and later in North Branch, hiking over to church from the lake and seeing Tom and Elizabeth. The lines in this song come to mind: "We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord, and we pray that all unity may one day be restored. And they'll know we are Christians, by our love, by our love." This was so true of Tom, a light of Christ´s love always lit inside, touching everyone. I know my mom and Dad, Steve and Bobbi Judd, are up in heaven, greeting him with "de colores!" The prayers of my family are with you tomorrow, and every day. God bless you.

I´m a high school friend of Tom´s daughter Aimee. I remember asking Aimee what her dad did and she said he was a "Deacon " in the church. I didn´t even know what a Deacon was at that time!!
He was a highly respected person in the community and such a wonderful family man and father. Rest In Peace
Aimee, my thoughts are with you and your family.

What a beautiful and fitting tribute to such a wonderful family man. I remember the days of running track with Natasha so fondly. Grandpa was always there for meets and treated each of us as his own...even allowing us to call him Grandpa! All my love to Grandma and the rest of the family in this tough time.

Our sympathy to all Tom & Elizabeth's family on the loss of this wonderful man. We've enjoyed growing in God's love with him for the past 30 years, starting with working with him and Elizabeth at St. Joseph parish. He indeed brought love and light into the lives of many people and hopefully we can continue to shine on bringing his light to the world.

I am sorry to hear about the loss of Tom. He was a great man, I always enjoyed visiting with them in Hugo. I love making soup and every time I made he heard about it and brought an empty bucket to fill with soup for him. He would always remind me that his soup bucket was empty. I will miss him . He was a kind, loving wonderful man. My thoughts and prayers for healing to the family.

I will never forget Tom's visit to me in the hospital one time when I was at a low period, on a rainy, grey, miserable day where there were to rooms available to they had me in the "sun porch" at the end of the hall, with very little privacy...Tom took time out of his busy work day at the bank, walked up to the hospital and when he walked in my "room" and smiled at me the whole room lit up like the sun came in with him....I will NeVER forget that dayand will NEVER forget Tom for the positive, giving, loving person he was...And our many family vacations up on the North Shore with all of the kids and the Mielke family also... I will miss him as I know everyone will but Elizabeth and family will him most I am sure. Anyone who came in contact with Tom will feel the loss greatly. Thank you Langlois family for sharing your husband/Dad with all of us...

My parents, Gene and Bernie Waldorf, know your parents well...at least I've heard good stories from long ago. Dad just died this past February so I'm trusting he's welcoming Tom with open arms. Blessings to the whole family.

I don´t remember the first time i met Tom, I was to young, but the memories I do have are all good ones. Growing up next door to the Langlois family in torre gave me the honor and pleasure of seeing Tom every day, I don´t think there was I time that Tom wasn´t smiling. My mom called he and Betty friends and I know my family were better people just because we were blessed to have Tom and Betty as friends. Betty, and the whole Langlois family, you are all in my Prayers and thoughts. RIP Tom!

My thoughts and prayers are with Liz and family at the loss of Tom. I got to know both of them at St. Gregory's where they became two of my most treasured memories. Tom was a very good man and one whom I truly miss. Thank you Tom for everything you did. Liz--know that our love surrounds you at this time as it always has. Take care. I can hear Dan and Tom having some debates right now about religion and social justice. Bob is probably joining them. Love--Mary Jo
