Virginia Ann ROACH

1936 - 2022

An avid swimmer, Ginny Roach swam her last laps home on June 30, 2022. While her death was sudden, her husband, Chuck, was with her. Ginny was the consummate partner in her family's lives and adventures. A lover of ice cream and committed bicyclist, she completed a cross-country U.S. ride, as well as rides throughout Europe and New Zealand. She rang hand-bells in Poland and China, took repeated mission trips to Haiti and visited all seven continents. Ginny's life revolved around her family, faith and church. She was a third-generation member of 70+ years at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, hand-bell ringer and choir member for many years. Her parents, Arthur Price Burris and Marjorie Merritt Burris, daughter, Martha, and brother Jim, preceded her in death. Her husband Chuck, and five remaining children survive her – Rob (Nancy Reid), Carrie, Betsi, Charlie (Leslee) and Jon (Brianna), as well as six grandchildren, one great granddaughter, her sister Barbara Burris Platter, and several nieces and nephews. Ginny was born in Minneapolis on March 8, 1936. She graduated as an Edina Hornet in 1954 and as a University of Minnesota Gopher in 1957. Having been talked out of nursing by Chuck prior to their marriage, she returned for an R.N. degree after their youngest child was able to go up the rope tow by himself. A memorial service will be held August 13 at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church (511 Groveland Avenue, Minneapolis). Visitation at 10:00 a.m., service at 11:00 a.m. and lunch to follow. The service will also be live streamed via haumc.org. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Hennepin Avenue UMC ("Hennepin Ministries" for children's music) or the donor's choice.
