JASON CHAPOOSE Obituary

JASON CHAPOOSE Jason Mark Chapoose, age 37, of Roosevelt, passed away December 3, 2023 with his family by his side at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. Jason was born in Roosevelt, Utah on March 16, 1986, he grew up living in Fort Duchesne, Utah. Jason attended Todd Elementary, West Jr. High and graduated from Uintah River High School. He played basketball ran cross country and was the Valedictorian of his graduating class. He then attended Colorado Northwestern Community College, Colorado Mountain College and Haskell Indian Nations University. While attending Colorado Northwestern Community College, he was a member of the Men's Cross Country team with his brother's Charley and Leland. All three brothers competed in the National Junior College Cross Country Championships in El Paso, Texas representing the CNCC Spartans and the Ute Indian Tribe. After returning home, he tried various occupations until he found his true calling. He began working with the Ute Indian Tribe Fish and Wildlife Department as a tech for the Outfitting and Guide Department. He then continued his work with the Fish & Wildlife Department as a Conservation Officer. He graduated from the Indian Police Academy in Artesia, New Mexico in 2014. Jay had many passions including, hunting, camping, playing golf, basketball and volleyball. He also enjoyed cooking and barbequing. He could be found selling his goods at the various community events. His favorite pastime was spending time with his kids, siblings and family. He loved being a dad and went above and beyond to play the part. Halloween was his favorite time dressing up as King Triton, The Joker, Prince, Rick James and he was very photogenic. Jason was generous and had an infectious personality. He was one of a kind, very giving and always willing to help others. His sense of humor couldn't be matched and his laughter was contagious. He was a good friend to many. He always seemed to lift people up and brighten the day with his genuine smile. You always knew when Jay was around because you could hear his Ooooo's and Haaww's which will be sorely missed. Jay was a beloved dad, brother, son, nephew, uncle, grandson and friend. We will deeply miss our JJ. Jason is survived by his children, Layla Marlene Annalynn Chapoose, Yellowstone Subdivision; Samuel Leelou Deso Chapoose and Ethan Mountain Sheep Chapoose, Myton, Utah; brothers, Curtis Chapoose (Jamie), Fort Duchesne, UT; Leland Chapoose, Ballard, UT; sisters, Lynnise Chapoose, Ciana Chapoose, both of Yellowstone Subdivision; Robin Chapoose, Eaglebutte, SD; adopted sister, Tatum DeGarmo, Fort Hall, ID; parents, Robert Chapoose Jr. (Vodne), Yellowstone Subdivision; Bernice Mescale (John), Sprague, WA; 6 nephews, 3 nieces, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his brother, Charley Chapoose; grandparents, Robert Chapoose Sr., Constance "Connie" Chapoose, Mike Mescale, Cecilia J Mescale, aunt, Celia Ann Mescale, first cousins, Roxanne Marion, Georgette Mescale, Michelle Mescale and Lyndell Toledo. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Fort Duchesne Community Building. There will be a wake after 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Fort Duchesne Community Building. Burial will be in the Fort Duchesne Cemetery. Condolences may be shared at www.hullingmortuary.com
