REMO GUINASSO Obituary

Remo Louis Guinasso, 85, a former local educator, peacefully passed away on Sept. 28, 2022, in Redlands, California.
He was born to Louis and Romilda Guinasso, immigrants from Italy. Remo loved bocce ball, continuously learning, acquiring books to read, and his beloved Bay Area sports teams. Remo taught speech therapy and learning-handicapped students for 40 years for Paso Robles School District, Kern County Office of Education, Tuolumne County Office of Education Tri-County Consortium at Sonora Union High School, Curtis Creek and Sullivan Creek schools. He was the initial teacher who created the Learning Handicapped program at Sonora High, then switched to create the Communicatively Handicapped Preschool program. When the Tri-County Consortium disbanded, he was assigned to the Sonora Elementary staff list as a Specialized Academic Instructor in grades kindergarten through fifth.
Following retirement in 1999, he joined the Gold Rush Charter School staff for seven years on a part-time basis. He then returned to Sonora Elementary as a volunteer in the Title 1 program for three years. His biggest joy was academic abilities. He loved opening up their curiosity of the world around them and seeing the joy of finally learning a concept in their eyes.
He also was a loving, kind "Teddy Bear," and a devoted, attentive husband and father.
Remo was preceded in death by parents of San Francisco; his daughter, Jessica Louise Guinasso, of Sonora; and sister, Lorraine Murphy, of South San Francisco.
He leaves his wife, Susan Boyson Guinasso, of Redlands; his daughter, Julianne Guinasso, and her husband, Ryan Voth, of Loma Linda, California; and numerous extended family.
At Remo's request, an immediate-family-only service is planned in the future.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the 49ers Foundation, which combines his love of the 49ers and children.

In 1991, I was a 5 grade student at SES. I had a speech issue and attended Mr. Guinasso's class. He was such a kind soul. He would even pick me up (or meet me at school) early mornings and took me to the Country Kitchen restaurant in Jamestown and I always ordered belgian waffles with whipped cream and strawberries. Sad to hear of his passing through this page. I just wanted to let his family know that he showed his heart to me when I needed it. Thank you.

Remo has always had a special place in my heart. He was wonderful as a Godfather when I was young and was always a great support for my family during difficult times. Loved spending time with him and he was a wonderful role model.
