Barry Clattenburg Obituary

CONCORD -- Barry J. Clattenburg, 59, died Dec. 13, 2010, at Concord Hospital after a long struggle with diabetes.

He was raised in Pittsfield, the son of Warren J. and Marjorie H. (Sherburne) Clattenburg. He attended Berkley College of Music in Boston. Although his first career in the automotive industry in the Concord and greater Manchester area occupied his young adult life, his love for cooking was rekindled during his employment with Shaker Village and In a Pinch Café.

He loved music and the theater, and was involved with the Pittsfield Community Players during the 1970s and 80s.

He performed one play with The Northwood Community players, accompanied by his daughter Samantha.

His niece, Penny Sawyer, took great care to aid his lasting health issues.

Family members include a daughter, Samantha Clattenburg; two granddaughters; two brothers, Bruce Clattenburg and Mark Clattenburg; and many nieces and nephews.

Dear Samantha and the Clattenburg
Family,
Barry was a great friend to me in high school. Music was our glue. We sang together in our folk group, the "Early Mornin' Light", and had a great time. He, Allison C. and I had fun with our trio, also. I'm so saddened by his passing. His wonderful spirit will be missed but will live on in my memory. My condolences to you.

Dear Friends,
I just received the obituary notice of Barry's passing. What a loss to you all. When I first moved to Norris Road in Pittsfield on my own with my three children, Barry was my first close friend. He suggested I audition for the Pittsfield Players show to find a place to fit in. He was a frequent visitor to our home. I considered him a part of our family of close friends.
Please accept my sincerest sympathy. With afffection, Joyce Morehouse

Dear Sam, Bruce, Pam and children,
I was saddened to hear about Barry's death. Although we had lost contact as adults, from junior high through our early 20s, we were very close. His high school nickname was "Fishy", why I don't remember — the arcane naming system of teenagers — and we raised a lot of hell together. Whatever it was, he always kept me laughing. He spent many days and evenings with my family and we considered him the brother/son we never had. He was talented musically and theatrically and gave of himself so generously and kindly. He thought the world of you, Sam, and was so proud to have you as his daughter. My thoughts are very much with you all. In great sympathy,

My sympathies to you, Sam, and our Clattenburg family. Your father was truly one of my favorite cousins. He always kept me smiling and laughing with his infectious humor. I thank my lucky stars that he brought me into your life, too, in those early years. Love to all,
