Gregory Fleury Obituary

Gregory Keith Fleury, age 66, has left this plane and drifted peacefully into the next with family and friends at his side. He died at Concord Hospital on March 2, 2025 due to respiratory failure.

Greg was born in Frankfurt, Germany on April 27, 1958 to Keith G. and Patricia E. Fleury. He attended Wilmot Schools, and ran track at Kearsarge Regional High School, where he graduated in 1976.

He was in an automobile accident in 1980, which left him physically disabled. While he was unable to speak, he had many other ways to communicate, including his smile and his bright blue eyes, which would light up a room. After 3 years of rehab, he moved to Manchester in 1983, where he lived independently, attending many adult day care programs in the surrounding areas. He moved to Merrimack County Nursing Home in September 2024, where he continued to make friends and participate in many activities.

He was always full of life, had a smile on his face, and made friends wherever life took him. He was a people person who loved the company of others, and had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved the ocean and was fortunate enough to take a family vacation to the coast of Maine for the last several years, where he could visit with his close family, eat lobster, sit in the sun, and enjoy life. Making many tie-dye shirts was the highlight of those trips and Greg loved seeing them all hanging on the clothesline. He enjoyed coffee (especially Dunkin Donuts!), ice cream, animals, kids, music, and owned quite the extensive collection of hats, his favorite one inherited from his brother "Tree." He was an avid sports fan of all Boston teams, and enjoyed watching them on TV.

He was predeceased by his father, Keith in 2009 and his brother, Forrest in 2010. He leaves his mother, Patricia Fleury from Wilmot, his sister Brenda Fleury Lance (Fred) from Andover, his brother Randy "Bam" (Sheila "Pebbles") from Sutton, nieces Kirsten Fleury, Abigail Lance (Charles Connell), Rebecca Lance Vendt (Josiah), and Emily Lance, nephew Erin Fleury (Ange Runova), great nephews Jake Fleury, Alex Fleury, Calvin Vendt, and Theodore Vendt, as well as many cousins. He also leaves his many dedicated caregivers, especially Belinda Allen Nerl who visited regularly and his most devoted friend and caregiver for over 38 years, Gaetane Houde, who enabled Greg to continue to live independently.

We are grateful for the support and care from Merrimack County Nursing Home staff and Concord Hospital staff, especially the nurses and doctors as we sat vigil around his bedside during his final hours.

Calling hours will be held at Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main Street, New London on Friday, March 7, 2025 from 4-6 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Wilmot Community Association Red Barn on Saturday March 8, 2025, from 2-4 p.m. with a brief service beginning at 2:00 p.m. followed by reminiscing and refreshments. A graveside service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Granite State Independent Living, Development Dept., 21 Chenell Drive, Concord, NH 03301 (adding donation on the memo line.) Greg was able to participate in many outings and events through this organization over the years.

Brenda and the rest of the loving Fleury family,
I feel so blessed to have been a part of Greg's later years. So many tears I have shared with him as we read sad stories of dogs dying or people experiencing loss. Now my tears are for my loss. I will miss you very much. You and Gaetane taught me so much about how to love and be the best caregiver. Tight, warm, hard hugs for you my friend and for all your loving family.

I am so sorry to hear of Greg's passing. I knew Greg when he was at Easterseals many years ago. I remember when he told me that my son, who was in daycare at the time said his ABC's all by himself. It made me so happy that he communicated that to me! I also remember his tie-dyed t-shirts. He was always such a happy person and had many friends at ES. I always wondered what happened to Greg once he left the program but it sounds like he lived a happy and wonderful life.

Toots, Brenda, Bam & Pebbles,

So saddened to hear of Greg's passing. He had a heart of gold and was such a good friend to me in our high school days.
I've come to learn that while our pain in loss is great, the memories we hold dear continue to hold us for many days to follow.

My heart is with you and I share your grief.

Greg used to attend our Adult Day Program. We loved Greg, his sense of humor and his ability to accept everyone. I especially loved it when Greg would attempt to sneak the chocolate from my office. It was his stash but he would always try to be the stealth invader. May he rest in peace and run to his heart's content.

So very many funny memories from our school days . Ohhh we had so much fun !! I spent many weekends at his place just being goofy teenagers .. I’m so very thankful that you got to come visit me at my farm and see the horses. Your eyes were full of happy tears at the remembrance of our antics and how I used to lock you in your locker at school so you could skip class!!! You always made me laugh so hard!!!

He really loved the ocean.

Greg held a special place in my heart all these years and although I only saw him at his mom's house or in Maine, I enjoyed seeing him and hanging out with him. He had such a great smile and attitude. I never saw or heard him complain since his accident. We loved taking him in the water up in Maine and he always had a huge smile on his face. He sure loved his family & friends and life! RIP Greg and I'll see you again one day.
