Joan Pigeon Obituary

Joan Louise (Belisle) Pigeon, 90, of Hooksett, NH, passed away peacefully at her home on September 28, 2025.

Born in Hooksett on October 22, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Noel and Beatrice (Bothwick) Belisle. She resided in Hooksett all of her life.

After the passing of her husband, she proudly owned and operated Derryfield Market in downtown Manchester. Known especially for her homemade baked beans, a Saturday tradition so popular they were reserved in advance, Joan became a familiar and friendly face to countless customers. Afterwards, she continued her professional career with Devine Millimet.

At age 72, Joan embraced retirement with gratitude and delight. She tended lovingly to her flowers and trees, filled her home with the music of Perry Como, and baked with care, her apple pies were legendary among family and friends.

Her children and grandchildren were the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them. The world may have lost a light, but the sky has gained a star that will shine forever. She is seen and remembered in strawberries and sunshine.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of seventeen years, Richard E. Pigeon. He died September 10, 1974.

Family members include three daughters, Kathy Cramer and her husband, William, Penny Standley and her husband, Jary, and Lori Pigeon and her husband, John Matteson; her grandchildren, Alyssa, Jessica, and Jeffrey; great-grandchildren Talia, Cameron, Addison, and Colton; a sister, Gloria Bouchard; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Catherine of Siena Church, 207 Hemlock Street, Manchester, NH.

Services: Private burial took place in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Hooksett, NH.

The Connor-Healy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 537 Union Street, Manchester, NH has the honor of assisting the family.

Yesterday

As a kid I grew up near Derryfield Market in the 50’s through the 70’s and remember the entire Pigeon family. I remember when Joan was at the cash register she never waited on a customer without a huge smile on her face and exhibited a lot of patience even when she had to tend to young boys like me and my friends who were either cashing in a bag full of Coke bottles for 2 cents each or ogling over the candy bars or grabbing popsicles from their self serve freezer. Richard was always in the back behind the meat counter. Wonderful memories of that store and family.
