John Francis "Jack" Hinckley

1933 - 2021

John Francis Hinckley, known by friends and family as "Jack," was born on Nov. 26, 1933, in Framingham, Mass. Jack was the son of the late Richard Hinckley and Elizabeth (Crane) Hinckley. Jack had three siblings, Richard and Robert Hinckley and Virginia (Hinckley) Ellis of Natick, Mass.

Jack married the love of his life, Ann "Nancy" (Cahill), and their love affair lasted until just before their 64th wedding anniversary.

After a three-year assignment with an Army Intelligence unit in Alaska, Jack graduated from Worcester State College with a degree in Mathematics. He taught school in both Worcester and Framingham. He also worked part-time at IBM and later developed a real knack for computers. He was the Head of the Maine Computer Center. Jack became a professor at Southern New Hampshire University, previously know as New Hampshire College. Three of his seven children followed him there and all got their degrees from NHC.

Jack will be deeply missed by his wife, Ann, four sons and three daughters, Elizabeth (Pete) Goldman, Paula (Carl) Sack, John F. (Laura) Hinckley, Janet (Chris) Menta, Stephen Hinckley, David (Susan) Hinckley, and Michael Hinckley. Jack's 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren plus one on the way, all cherished him.

Jack was known for his honesty and integrity, traits he endeavored to pass on to his children. Mom did most of the child-rearing, but dad was the disciplinarian and instilling good values in his children meant a lot to him. He was reserved and did not speak often, but when he did he was very quick-witted and funny. We all enjoyed spending time with him and discussing his beloved Patriots!

There will be an internment service with military honors for John Francis Hinckley at the Veterans Cemetery at Boscawen, N.H., on Sept. 24.
