Robert St. Onge

MANCHESTER - Robert Theodore Joseph St. Onge, 76, Manchester and Port Orange, Fla., died March 13, 2012, at Halifax Hospice in Florida.

He was born June 23, 1935, in Manchester, the son of the late Elphege and Cora (Bouchard) St. Onge. He attended local schools. Robert worked as a glazier for the Union Local 1044.

He served in the Army during the Korean War.

Robert was a life member of VFW Post 8214 and very active in the post. He was past commander, 1994-95, Department of New Hampshire Veterans of Foreign Wars; District 6 Commander; Manchester Post 8214 past commander, and served on many national appointments. He provided Veterans Administration Volunteer Service through the VFW for many years and was also involved with the VFW Voice of Democracy Program in local high schools.

Mr. St. Onge was a member of the American Legion Jutras Post 43, the Elks Lodge 146 and the Alpine Club. He was also a member of the Eagles in Port Orange.

He is survived by his three sons, William, Robert II and David St. Onge, all of Manchester; six daughters, Denise and Sandra St. Onge of Manchester, Janet St. Onge of Dunbarton, Jeannine St. Onge of Davenport, Fla., Michelle St. Onge of Auburn and Diana Provencher of North Carolina; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; his companion of 23 years, Rita Montague of Manchester and Port Orange, Fla.; sister, Theresa St. Laurent of Manchester and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Rose Dube.

services:Calling hours are at the Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover St., Manchester, from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Ste. Marie Church, 378 Notre Dame Ave., Manchester, at 10 a.m. Monday. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Halifax Hospice, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.
