Thomas Sysyn Obituary

Thomas A. Sysyn, 76, of Daytona Beach, FL, formerly of Manchester, passed away on February 27, 2024, at Advent Health Hospital in Daytona Beach.

He was born in Manchester on May 2, 1947, the son of Nicholas and Olga (Pappacostas) Sysyn. Thomas had been disabled with polio but refused to collect disability and worked for over thirty years for Hillsborough County Nursing Home in the dietary department. He had a passion for helping others. He was an avid bowler and collected numerous trophies. He also enjoyed billiards, shuffleboard, and reading. He had a large collection of NASCAR model cars and enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra records. Thomas wanted to make Florida his permanent home but that was short lived.

Family members include his mother; a brother Jay Sysyn, his nephew Jeffrey Sysyn; and his favorite cousin, James Brianas who was always there for him. He also leaves several other relatives of the Sysyn, Thurgeson, and Brianas families.

A calling hour will take place on Thursday, March 7th from 10 to 11 in St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral followed by a funeral service in the church at 11. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to either St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Shriners. Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Manchester, is in charge of arrangements. To view an online tribute, send condolences to the family, or for more information, visit www.phaneuf.net

Our deepest sympathies to Olga and Jay. Tom had a wonderful sense of humour and was a great guy. I remember going to your house in Manchester and at Glen Lake. May His Memory Be Eternal!!

Tom was a good friend at Memorial High School. He was always optimistic and had a positive attitude. Great man and I always had great respect for him. My condolences to Tom's family and I'm sure he was loved very much by them.
