Walter Zielinski Obituary

Walter Zielinski (also known as "Okoo," although we don't know why), 93, a beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, passed away on March 28, 2025, at his daughter's home in Chichester, NH, following a period of declining health.

Walter was born on September 20, 1931, in Manchester, NH, to Albert Zielinski and Frances Zyma Zielinski in Manchester, NH. He attended Manchester schools and graduated from Manchester High School Central in 1950. While at Central, he excelled in sports, including baseball and football.

After graduating from high school, Walter proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Seabees Construction Battalion 53, Cubi Point Airbase Construction Project.

After being in the service, Walter returned home to Manchester, NH, where he met his wife, Maryanne Bousquet Zielinski. They were married in 1956 and were married for 58 years, until her death in 2014.

Walter worked for Lew A. Cummings Co. in Manchester for many years until his retirement.

Walter enjoyed building and home projects, building the home where his family lived in Manchester and also building a vacation home in Springfield, NH, where he loved fishing, swimming and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also able to spend a lot of time with his great grandchildren in his later years. He loved any home project and would always be willing to help family and friends with their projects. He was a fan of all Boston sports. He also loved to golf in his retirement.

After his wife's death, Walter spent time volunteering with the Meals on Wheels Program in Manchester.

In addition to his parents and wife, Walter was predeceased by his son, Michael Zielinski, in 2011.

Walter was also predeceased by eight siblings, John Zelin, Pauline Nita, Joseph Zielinski, Mary Leclerc, Stella Lambert, Joan Cornell, Richard Zielinski and Steven Zielinski.

Walter is survived by his daughter, Anne Edmonds and her husband Bob of Chichester, his son, Edward Zielinski and his wife Maggie of Quincy, Massachusetts, 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, with another great grandchild due in September. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews and extended family.

The Funeral Mass will be held in the chapel at Saint Hedwig Cemetery, 71 Old Bedford Road, Bedford, NH on Wednesday, April 9th at 11:00 AM.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Manchester VA Medical Center, the home hospice staff of the Granite VNA who was so helpful in his last days, ServiceLink, and the Meals on Wheels Program of Belknap/Merrimack County.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in Walter's name be made to any of the above organizations.
