Iris F. McAlexander

ST. PARIS - Iris F. McAlexander, age 91, of Conover, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017 in her residence. Born on March 18, 1926 in Pulaski County, KY, Iris was a daughter of the late John and Dahlia (Garrison) Farmer. She married Harry Autom McAlexander on October 28, 1947 and he preceded her in death on June 12, 2005. Together they raised seven children: Robert (Kathy) McAlexander of Rosewood, William (Carolyn) McAlexander of Brooklyn, MI, Barbara Biddle of Urbana, OH, Sherry Veach of Fair Grove, MO, Julia (William) Blue of Urbana, OH, Bridget (Randall) Early of Bellefontaine, OH, and Norma (Mark) Wallen of St. Paris, OH. She was a loving grandmother to 24 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Jessamine Clark and a brother-in-law, Russell Fisher, both of Amelia, OH. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by three brothers, Alden, Byron, and Cloyd Farmer, and three sisters, Beulah Davis, Pauline Raugh, and Arlena Fisher. Iris repaired bomber fuel tanks during WWII with Firestone of New Castle, Indiana. She also worked as a beautician. She was a seamstress for Jerold's Clothing in Sidney. She spent most of her life as a dairy farmer. She loved to crochet and made over 100 afghans for family and friends. She also learned to fly at Grimes Field in Urbana. She loved spending time in the woods. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the ATKINS-SHIVELY FUNERAL HOME, 216 S. Springfield Street, St. Paris, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 11 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery, Conover, OH.
