Fred Moon Obituary

Fred J. Moon
Waterville
Fred J. Moon, 85, of Madison Street, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2011, at his home, with his loving wife and family by his side, following a short, but courageous battle against cancer. Fred was born in Hamilton on July 30, 1926, the son of the late Fred and Bertha Henriksen Moon. He was a graduate of Oriskany Falls High School. Fred was a proud Navy Veteran, having joined the service on September 1, 1943. He served in the Navy Medical Corps in both the European and Pacific Theatres. Fred was in Normandy during the D-Day Invasion and also witnessed the raising of the U.S. Flag in Iwo Jima. Following the war, Fred married the love of his life, Dorothy Brewer, on June 29, 1946, in Oriskany Falls. Fred and Dorothy made Waterville their home in 1948. In 1965, Fred started his barber shop, serving many generations of area families, finally retiring, due to his illness, on July 7, 2011. He had also been a School Bus Driver for the Waterville School District. Fred had a great love for people, but none greater than for his family, who were most dear to him. He is survived by loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy; his daughter, Judy (Robert) (Rip) Elliott, and his son, Scott (Margaret Clark) Moon; his grandchildren, Sue (Tim) Scully, Donald (Janice) Elliott, Lori Maxson, Diane (Jeff) Williams, Jenny (Walter) Moon Lippmann, Jessica (Greg) Moon Owen, Nicki Moon and Amanda Moon; his great-grandchildren, Karlie Scully, Laken Elliott, Bryce Elliott, Jadon Elliott, Harrison Elliott, Carter Maxson, Brooke Williams, Hunter Williams, Dawson Williams and Preston Lippmann. Fred is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by five siblings. In keeping with Fred's wishes, services will be held at the convenience of the family and there will be no calling hours. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Paul Funeral Home of Madison. Fred's family wishes to extend a special thanks to the caregivers of Hospice and Palliative Care. In Fred's memory, kindly make a donation to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413.

The families of Edward Isley & Cathy Isley Sommers (and children) wish to extend SINCEREST and DEEPEST sympathies to Dorothy, Judy, Scott and families. Fred has a "special" place in our hearts as he touched Ed's life in high school, their Navy years, Masonic years and all the years he was his barber & good friend. They would laugh about their Navy days, the same story, during every haircut. We will miss him dearly. God Bless!
