Joan A. Calhoun, 82, of Marcy, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Friday, July 25, 2014. She was born on May 28, 1932, in Utica, a daughter of the late Joseph and Victoria (Szalkowski) Siuta. Joan was employed with General Electric as a planner, retiring in 1990 after more than 38 years of dedicated service. She was a member of St. Joseph & St. Patricks Church in Utica; she also was a member of the GE Ski Club. She loved pets, especially her canine companion, Gigi. She also enjoyed sewing and cooking. She is survived by her brother, Raymond Siuta and his wife, Chicky, of Utica, and a sister, Theresa Belknap, of Rome. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly, and a very special niece, Suzana Montana and her husband, Frank, of Clinton. She was predeceased by a sister, Gladys Penc, and a nephew, Edward Belknap. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM from the Ryczek Funeral Home, 1123 Court and York Sts. in Utica, and at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph & St. Patricks Church in Utica, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in St. Josephs Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday prior to the service from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the funeral home. I have known Joan for many years. I always enjoyed visiting and her phone calls. Joan was always making sure her family was taking care of. A very wise woman and always very pleasant. I will always remember her and will say a pray for her and her family.
