Joseph A. Arcuri, 90, of Whitesboro, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on Friday, April 11, 2014, at St. Elizabeths Medical Center. He was born on May 11, 1923, in Utica, a son of the late Salvatore and Rose (Stoppiello) Arcuri. He was a 1941 graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. He began his undergraduate studies at Niagara University and then was called to serve in the United States Army Air Force where he served honorably and was discharged in 1946. When he returned home he was united in marriage to Theresa Mary Mastrangelo on June 30, 1947. A blessed union of over 64 years filled with much love and mutual devotion, Mrs. Arcuri passed away on September 29, 2011. He was a member of the first graduating class at the New York Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences, now know as M.V.C.C. He later enrolled at Utica College and was a member of the first graduating class in 1949. Joseph was employed with R.H. Donnelly a Dunn and Brad Street Corporation as an Account Executive, retiring after 35 years of dedicated service. He is survived by his children, R. Maryelen (Cookie) Bowers and her husband, William, of Whitesboro, Frederick (Fritz) Arcuri and his wife, Beth, of New Hartford, and Sarann L. Nickley and her husband, James, of Indialantic, FL; his grandchildren, William Bowers and his wife, Kristen, of PA, Robert Bowers, of Whitesboro, Christopher Arcuri and his wife, Angela, of NC, Michael Arcuri and his wife, Brandi, of AZ, James Nickley III and his wife, Heather, of FL, Marc Nickley and his wife, Nicole, of NYC and Sara Pollard and her husband, Deacon, of FL. He also leaves eight great grandchildren; and a sister Clementina Caporale, of Schenectady, NY. The family wishes to sincerely thank Dr. S.K. Dang and Dr. Frederick Talerico and the nurses and staff at St. Elizabeths Medical Center for the wonderful care complemented by true compassion that was given to Joseph during his illness. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church in New Hartford where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. There are no public calling hours. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Funeral Mass. Arrangements are with the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home 13 Oxford Rd. New Hartford. In lieu of flowers please consider a contribution to the Wounded Warrior Project in his memory. Envelopes will be available at the service. while talking with my sister Josephine Roberts 5 days ago, cousin joe was brought up as well as tina. we both had great fondness and memories of them..our mom was a stoppiello, aunt rosie's sister...we will always be grateful for the maternal side of our family.

joseph was a wonderful man and my sister and I will miss him.
