Paul Temple Obituary

Dr. Paul William
Temple
ROME
Dr. Paul William Temple, 64, of Rome, entered the loving arms of God on Sunday, January 18, 2015, at home, with his loving family by his side. He was born December 13, 1950, in Springfield, VT, the son of Orza and Ruby Armstrong Temple. He was a graduate of Springfield High School Class of 1968, University of Connecticut Class of 1972, and University of Vermont Medical School Class of 1976. He did his internship and residency in Akron City Hospital in Akron, OH, from 1976-1980. On May 8, 1976, he married Diane Carlisle in Springfield, VT. Together they shared a blessed union of 38 years. They affectionately called each other Dear. Growing up in Springfield, Paul was a paperboy, worked at a cider mill, and was a beekeeper. He worked at Wheelers Drugstore and was an orderly at Springfield Hospital, before deciding to pursue a career in medicine. Dr. Temple came to Rome in 1980 and joined 101 Associates as an OB/GYN. In 1987, he opened his own practice. Paul was instrumental in including fathers participation in their childrens deliveries. He enjoyed taking on the added role of delivery room photographer, helping capture extremely special moments in families lives. He was known for his enthusiasm, yet gentle care during his deliveries. Paul delivered his last baby in 2014 and continued his GYN practice. Over the thirty-five years of his career, he made many special bonds and friendships with patients, nurses, secretaries, maintenance staff, doctors, technicians, and many other hospital employees. Paul was very active. He was a member of the Delta United Methodist Church, Mohawk Valley Bluegrass Association, Delta Strings and Things Guitar Group, and the Camden Rod and Gun Club. As an Eagle Scout, he was honored to have achieved the Order of the Arrow, one of the highest ranks of the Boy Scouts of America. He sponsored hospital bowling and bocce leagues. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, water-skiing, hiking, and cross-country and downhill skiing. He loved boating on Lake Sunapee in New Hampshire and taking family and friends for rides on tubes and water-skiing. His hobbies also included photography, building fly rods, tying flies for fly fishing, camping, researching his ancestry, and reading about history. He loved to grill, especially his famous BBQ ribs. Paul cherished spending time with his family, especially taking his grandson, Brayton, to Bass Pro Shops. Brayton and his Boppa had a special bond. Whenever anyone spoke of Brayton, Paul would say, God bless him. We are so lucky to have him. He also enjoyed trap and skeet shooting with his son-in-law, Josh, and discussing the Bible with his daughter, Jenna. He instilled a love of classical music in his daughter, Jillian. Paul and his wife, Diane, loved going for scenic drives in the country together. His family will remember him as a hardworking, humble, determined, generous, dedicated, and selfless man. His gentle spirit and humble beginnings made him the person they would trust to seek advice and guidance. He was a man of unwavering faith in God. Surviving besides his loving wife, Diane, are: two daughters and a son-in-law, Jillian and Josh Olney, of Rome, and Jenna Temple, of Stamford, CT; a brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Marcia Temple, of Claremont, NH; one grandchild, Brayton William Olney, and one on the way; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patricia and Gregory Matulonis, of Perkinsville, VT; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his in-laws, Roland and Irene Carlisle; and a brother-in-law, Richard Carlisle. Dr. Temples family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Registered Nurses Rita Hoffman, Deb Lambert, Carrie McMahon, Donna Kelley, Joan Bisgrove, and Michelle Bates; Drs. Michael Fries, Larry Burgreen, Anthony Contronea, Linda Schicker and Shuban Moza; Reverends Art Miner, and Sue Walters; Amcare Ambulance, Rome Hospital staff, and SUNY-Upstate Medical Center staff, for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Paul during his illness. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00, at the Delta United Methodist Church, 6285 Hawkins Corner Rd, Rome. Interment will take place in Rome Cemetery in the spring. Friends may call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dr. Temples memory may be made to the Dr. Paul W. Dr. Temple became my doctor in 1989 when I moved to NY from MA. I will never forget his words for taking a phone call in the middle of one of my appointments."Every pregnancy is different and special as is every delivery". A very special doctor whom will be impossible to replace. May God bring you all a sense of peace in remembering his life.
