Robert Philpotts Obituary
Sauquoit, NY
Mr. Robert V. Philpotts, 81, of Sauquoit, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2011, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in New Hartford. Robert was born on November 18, 1929, in Starret, West Virginia, the son of Tony and Lena (Harwood) Philpotts, and was raised and educated in Akron, Ohio. Robert honorably served his country in The US Marine Corps during the Korean War. On November 27, 1952, Robert married JoAnn Roemer at St. John the Evangelist Church in New Hartford. For 40 years, he was employed as a model maker with Bendix Corp., retiring in 1990. Robert was a member of the Marine Corps League and a parishioner of St. Anthony & St. Patrick's Church in Chadwicks. He enjoyed playing shuffleboard, cooking, especially cookies and cakes for all occasions, but received his greatest joy spending time with his grandchildren who were the light of his life. Mr. Philpotts is survived by his beloved wife, JoAnn; two daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and Scott Miller, of Sauquoit, and Bette and Tom Wheelock, of Sauquoit; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert and Cheryl Philpotts, of Las Vegas, NV, Charles Philpotts, of Utica, and Steven and Darleen Philpotts, of Clayville; 12 cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth Philpotts, Joseph Philpotts, Salina Lam, Kristen Philpotts, Meghan Philpotts, Matthew Miller, Robert Miller, Amanda Miller, Alicia Wheelock, Steven Philpotts, Jr., Taylor Philpotts and Alexander Philpotts; six adored great-grandchildren, Dylan, R.J., Brooke, Hannah, Lucie and William; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Jackie Wallis, of OH, and Lois and Preston Stewart, of CA; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Nicky Hetrick, of OH, and Arthur and Euna Hetrick, of OH; one brother-in-law and three sisters-in-law, Daniel and Frances Roemer, of Utica, Donna Miller, of Clayville, and Nancy Rose, of Sauquoit; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, Chad Lam; one sister, Lola Spangler; and one brother, Tommy Philpott. Mr. Philpotts' funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony and St. Patrick's Church in Chadwicks, where his mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Memorial Park in Kirkland. In keeping with Robert's wishes, there are no calling hours. I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Philpotts passing. Many fun moments were had visiting with him and trying to get his special recipes. There will be many fond memories invoked whenever I make his Black Forest Cake.
