Theodore Grabowski Obituary

Theodore Grabowski
Whitesboro
Theodore R. Grabowski, 70, of Whitesboro, passed away November 5, 2011, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare. He was born June 14, 1941, in Providence, RI, a son of Theodore and Bronislawa Sojka Grabowski. Ted moved to the Utica and Clinton area and attended UFA and Whitesboro schools. Mr. Grabowski proudly served in the US Navy for four years; he served aboard the USS Essex. He married Nadine Smith on October 29. In the late 1960s, Ted was a mechanic at Endre's Cycles. In 1968, he started TNT Cycle in a garage in West Utica. He moved the business to Whitesboro in 1974. Ted was a complete motorcycle enthusiast. In 1967, he won the first Enduro race he entered. In 1970, he was the Founding Father of Swamp Fox M/C. In 1972, he started CNYMRA, later known as D-3. Ted helped many young dirt bike racers reach the professional level. He will be missed by many, but his enthusiasm and love for riding will live on in all that he has touched over the years. WFO In his early years, he enjoyed hunting. Ted was a Civil War buff. He traveled to all of the Civil War sites. He found these to be places to be a high and low; comforting and peaceful. He also enjoyed traveling, especially out West with his wife. He enjoyed time spent riding up to Hinckley with friends, and his yearly trek to Florida Bike Week with Team Krusty and Mark Grasso and Boys. Ted was involved in Shotokan Karate. He wanted to thank his Sensei, Keith Mulligan, for his patience. He leaves his lovely wife and companion, Nadine; his four legged sidekick, Razz, and can't forget Walter Cox, who faithfully announces sunrises. He is also survived by his brother, Dick, and his family. Nadine would like to express her sincere thanks to everyone at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare who helped Ted, for their care and compassion. A Memorial Service will be Monday, 5:00 p.m., with visitation from 2:00 until the time of the service, at Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, Forty Main Street, Whitesboro. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to the Stevens-Swan Humane Society. Online expressions of sympathy may be left at: www.dfwefh.com

To all the family of Ted. I stopped over to the shop last year to see Ted while I was visiting N.Y. The place was closed so I was forced to only leave a note.Ted helped me keep my old 1965 BSA running and me terrorizing the Whitesboro area for years. He was a good friend!!

Ted was a landmark in our area and it's always tough to lose a person like that. He was as "young" a 70 year old as we'd all wish to be. For that reason and others, he left way too soon.

I'll always remember how he let paying customers wait in line while he hand drew me a map of where the original Swamp Fox tracks were located just because I showed an interest in finding the site of the original CNYMRA tracks. I think that pretty much sums up the type of person Ted was.

I was shocked to hear that Ted had passed away. Leo Whaley told me about it. I had many, many great times with Ted over years racing and our latest get away last year riding the Baja. He was a great person and always a joy to be with, I will miss him dearly.
